Sand’s Day at the Beach | 2019 Live Show SWM+ Sneak Peek

Aunt Sandy Shoals knows all the right ways to make this beach trip one to sleep to.

Happy Subscriber Summer! All summer long, we’ll be giving you a sneak peek of material exclusively available on Sleep With Me Plus. SWM+ supporters will be getting multiple brand new episodes every week. Learn more at sleepwithmepodcast.com/plus

This is a live show, so it’s structured a little differently from regular episodes. It’s a little sillier and looser, but it’s still plenty sleepy.

Get in your chair or poof or big chair and get comfy

    Wednesday gets a bad rap

Resting in the arms of Wednesday evening

I had a prepared list of metaphors ready

I was thinking about sand toys

    Sand-Themed Episode

Bubble Blowing as metaphor didn’t do well

It’s not a popularity contest, bubble blower

    You stay home with Koa

Bubble blowing is different from enjoying bubbles

No one voted for bubble blowing

Kids parties have ruined bubble blowing for the rest of us

The Happiest Bubble on Earth … is you!

    The opposite of popularity

    Explaining the show

    Your designated sand toy bag

What kind of person doesn’t think about bubble blowing’s feelings?

I’ll let the experts in Stockholm do the analysis here

    STORY

    A guided meditation for sand

I interviewed thousands of grains of sand

This particular grain of sand has a great view

    You’re one among many

The eyesight of grains of sand

    An almost 360 degree view

You’re waking up to your existence as sand

    Waves are touching the shore

    I believe that sand breathes

Someone is yelling about taking the freaking kids to the beach

    A western-facing water

A tiny ripple on the surface

A bluff is to your east

    Houses on the bluff

A positive version of a whine

A variety of kids and tweens

Heading down the stairs to the beach

Kids don’t normally walk this neatly

An adult male buffoon is behind them

Carrying towels in all sorts of ways

He’s got a tray with a bottle on it

A terrible impersonation of a French waiter

    This is an uncle

    Welcome to the beachside restaurant

The finest sunscreen the world has ever seen

    Illegally imported European sunscreen

The famous traincar sunscreen application method

The uncle keeps trying to gamify

    European NOAD

The sunscreen is almost like white makeup, but it’ll get absorbed

Don’t go near the water yet

The waiter goes to get the hostess

They start tossing stones into the water

The uncle returns with a mop head wig

    Welcome to “Sandy Shoals”

    A 6 course menu

The kids just want to swim

Swimming is later on the menu, it’s still too cold

Beach furniture is not treated with respect

    Neglected Beach Furniture

    Lounge chairs with flat tubes

An electric blue and a hot magenta

    Seatbelt-like cloth

First serving – the digging of holes

Picture the beach in your mind

Working up an appetite for the water

One child goes right out to the water

    Great digging locations

Study your fingernails and remember to make them clean when you go out for lunch

    Begin To Dig

Remembering the first touch of sand

The scrape of nails against sand

Oh, those sounds of digging and scooping!

    A downward dog dig

    Different digging techniques

The moment you reach water in your sand dig

I can only assume that’s how a marsupial digs

Now we’re gonna build some sand castles

But first we must build consensus

    Different types of sand castles

    Wet sand dripping like wax

    Fetch your sand castle molds

Let’s start with Ryan’s hole close to the shore

    Hollywood-Style Sand Castles

    Litlte Mermaid Style

Miranda wants to decorate the castle with feathers

    And sticks and stones

Don’t stray too far looking for decorations

    Beachcombing Area

    Aunt Sandy’s Beachcombing Experience

She liked to collect old fireworks

    Working on sand castle forms

Ryan builds a tidal canal for his castle

Sophia is drizzlign sand on her Little Mermaid castle

I’ve never successfully made a sand castle sand castle

The tide has started to come in

The center of the castle becomes a mud bog

What a day we’re having here!

    Aunt Sandy proposes bubble blowing

But I guess it’s time for swimming

    Swimming Expectations

The crystal clear water of Lake Teri

You gotta get out past the rocks

Crawl like a primordial fish creature that wants to get back to their ooze

Aunt Sandy eases into getting wet

    The Mango Method

Repeatedly jumping in and out of the water 30 times

    Perfect water stasis temp

The kids want to play a game

There’s no fair way to play Marco Polo

We’re not gonna play freeze tag either

Frankenstein in the Water, the game

In water between your knees and thighs

Walk with your legs and arms totally straight, as fast as you can

    That’s supposed to be fun?

    Walking and groaning

Aunt Sandy pretends to be inept and maybe loses her mop wig

Let’s play “Dolphins in the Water” aka just swim around

    A fun contest idea

Grab those buckets full of water balloons

These water balloons floated on the water

Family & Friends Water Balloon Toss

Little Ted goes in the middle

Throw it up straight in the air

You just have to wait to see who it’s gonna hit

The gentle, warming waves pick up

It’s like being on a chairlift

Now we can play regular water balloon toss

    Water balloon duels

This ain’t Aunt Sandy’s first trip to the beach

A conspiracy to pelt Aunt Sandy with water balloons

Then they all start getting Aunt Sandy

Time for our second application of sunscreen

Aunt Sandy had detected a change in the water

A storm is brewing and she can feel it on the air

Time for some serious rock collecting

    Time for rock skipping

Some kids just aren’t good at skipping rocks and that’s okay

Look for the maroon rocks among the gray

    A subtle red

    Pile up these red rocks

    No skipping rocks yet!

    Undeniable Weather Changing

Everyone knows a storm is coming now

Skip a rock to make the rain go away

The more skips, the later the storm will come

Aunt Sandy keeps messing up the skipping math

    The thunder and rain begin

Time to clean the beach up

2 minutes and 11 seconds to clean up

    The waves were now crashing

The air begins to cool and release

The children are lined up at the outdoor shower, soaping their nails

Screen doors banging open and closed

Sink into the warm sand with the cool air around you

    Take that storm in

    Chattering about indoor games

    You drift off

    A multitude of sand experiences

    Bumblebee Butts

And that will bring us back to waking here

This is a birthday party show for this location
