Lake Ontario, Can I Call You Teri? Listener Favorites #570 (On Location)
As the lake rolls, Scoots strolls…down memory lane, of his long intimate relationship with the greatest of the Great Lakes. HEADS UP this episode has singing and was recorded on location, we stopped putting this style of episode out years in the ad-supported feed ago since the sponsor spots can disrupt the flow but we are running this test due to how POPULAR this style of show is with some listeners. Use our contact page to let us know what you think. There is also some singing as well which we stopped a long time ago as listeners also find disruptive, but we are breaking all the rules this summer!

Waves on the shore at the dawning of night
I can’t believe it’s 10pm
An occasional on-location episode
The waves are rocking and I’ve come a-knocking
I’m looking right at the big dipper now
The Big Dripper
Sorry, Big Bopper fans
No one plays Whack-a-Mole anymore
I am on Moon Watch (no moon yet)
Dune-Like Hill (DLH)
I’m not good at orienteering. Oh wait, yes, I am
Pure White Noise
Chocolate Milk Noise
When the sun goes down, do things turn black & white?
A gerbil named Chitter
I’m getting some sea spray off this lake
I personally would call Lake Teri an Inland Sea
STORY
The Greatest of the Great Lakes
My parents’ 45th Anniversary
I went out to dinner with them, just to celebrate
I was very happy with their smoked meat
My parents both finished about 12% of their pasta dinners
My mother and I then got ice cream
I’ll go outside and record a podcast and leave you alone… (giggle giggle)
Always Be Recording (ABR)
This lake is very churny
Don’t even tell me Superior is the best
I’ve swam in Lake Erie before – I don’t remember much
Lay, Lady, Lake
I love this lake so much
I know my limits when it comes to swimming in Teri
The water temp felt fantastic
In the embrace of a long-lost lover
I don’t have a plutonic relationship with this lake
It’s lover-level, with no loving
I was tired from the current in my latest swim
Time to change subjects
I think it’s a full moon, but I’m still waiting to see it
A beautiful sky
Bob Ross’s spirit is in these clouds
The colors of the clouds
The gray of a wise, gray-haired person
90s balls
Baseball-sized foam Balls with faces on them
A really stylized F
I guess I’m personifying these clouds
The first F with a goatee
I’m under one of the dippers, who knows
3 stars in the handle, 4 in the scoop
What even is a blue moon?
Let’s get the Moon’s moon over here
I can’t even pander to the lake, it’s so loud
The Lake is calling my attention on an olfactory level
Can I call you Teri?
I’ll call you Teri at my own risk
Beautiful Backlit Clouds
Piecing out the first time I swam in Lake Ontario
My dad’s friend Norm
He had a house on Teri
Camps and Cabins vs Houses
I’m not sure what their foundation situation is
Norm had something between a camp and a summer house
One of his daughter’s was my babysitter, the other was my first super crush
Norm’s daughter was so kind
My Mom’s Almost Stereotypical Irish-Catholic Family
My entire extended family would have a family reunion
Just a huge reunion
I really looked forward to Soda Taps
Maybe I had a distant aunt / uncle who worked at a soda distributor?
We had freaking soda on tap
30 – 40 kids, living off soda, hot dogs, and potato salad
Making crazy soda cocktails
A Distant Uncle was married to a woman who played a doctor in ET
Having a crush on distant aunts
I think I have 50 – 60 cousins
Idyllic, but not quite super-cherished memories
We would have Golf Awards
My Aunt Helen was such a great golfer
I would caddy
Letting me caddy was a bad idea
A giant hammock all the kids would get in
We swam so much
There was only one bathroom
My parents decided to start renting a camp
There’s just so many lakes
Right on the Cusp of Awkwardness
When I got angsty, I became really unpleasant
Norm’s daughter always had boyfriends with motorcycles
I was pre-emasculated before I grew up
I promised my mom I’d never ride a motorcycle
After a while, my angst set in
I wanted to brood and work
I worked at a grocery store so I didn’t have to come up here
I developed an allergy to dust
Oh boy, I saw a shooting star right above me!
It just became a really bad allergy
As soon as I hit puberty, my started running and never stopped
I took Sudafed all the time
I didn’t discover Benadryl until college
What do Sudafed and Teri have in common?
I fell out of love with Teri in those days
And then I moved across the country
When my daughter was born, I was more interested in returning to Teri to be with family
And then I’d just swim, eat hot dogs, and get soft serve ice cream with my daughter
I don’t have to wear a shirt the entire time I’m here
The Sweet Embrace of Lady Lake
The water is great and clear
My parents are very camp-oriented
Shell-Based Art (SBA)
Driftwood-Based Art (DBA)
Lighthouse-Based Art (LBA)
Just a whole lot of hot dogs and salt potatoes
Normally we time it with a visit to the Great New York State Fair
I’m very thankful for you, Teri
I’m so lucky to love this lake
This lack has a real personality
It’s stormy tonight
A line of black water on the horizon
Is this a steely blue gray?
The water sounds are consistently inconsistent
It is definitely chaotic tonight
A lot of Premature Waking going on
This wouldn’t qualify as Roiling, in my opinion
Ice dunes will form on this lake in the winter
2 Things about the offseason
We’d always lose a ball in the water when it was too cold to get in the water
It’s a big salmon fishing spot in the winter
Huts that would sell Yoo-Hoo
The only place I ever had Yoo-Hoo
That magically, syrupy, watery, chocolatey taste
Maybe I’ll come back to the beach again
My favorite lake of lakes
I hope I can call her Teri
Thanks for listening
