1412 – Beams of Light and Goop | Get Besos in the Sky PI 17
This recap has a mind of its own, so consider this episode a new kind of prequel where the sum of James and Richie’s past exploits swim in the bog of my mind.
Heads up, this series is set in the Big Farm. I've done my best to keep the show as sleepy as possible, but it does touch on different versions of post-Earthly existence. If that doesn't sound like your cup of tea, it might be best to listen to a different episode.

Episode 1412 – Beams of Light and Goop | Get Besos in the Sky PI E17
[START OF RECORDING]
SCOOTER: Friends beyond the binary, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, it’s time to return to a place where G and DK, Simon, best friends Richie and James, and so many other get together on a journey trying to find what they need to find, which is kind of similar to…I never…sometimes I never know I’m looking, even though…even when…I guess I am a bit like a pup, pup, puppy, because…or even a mature dog, where I’m always digging holes. You say, what exactly are you…? Just don't worry about it. I don't…Koa, my current dog, is not a hole-digger, but we…this is just…I think this is somewhat relatable, right? So, we’ve had other dogs in our life, or my life, but maybe we're all talking here. Maybe your life…maybe no dogs, or maybe you don't know…there’s some dogs that dig holes.
It also happens in cartoons, and in cartoons, typically they're hiding or finding bones. My dog never…we never gave a dog a bone. I mean, occasionally we would, but it was unrelated to the hole-digging. Now, my dog did watch a lot of cartoons, though. Patty and Coco are the two dogs I’m thinking of. Occasionally, one of the two of them…we had them separately or consecutively with some time in-between…they would…if it was warm out, they would get in the hole, stay cool, but that…I don't think…the hole was unrelated to the temperature in the air. I guess alls I’m trying to say is…the part of me that wants to be like, ‘what are you doing digging holes like that?’ suddenly realizes, as I’m trying to introduce and open a sleep podcast, that I do a lot of hole-digging like that. You say, what are you doing?
What are you looking for, exactly? Looking…I don't know what I’m looking for. What do you mean? I’m just…oh. Huh. Interesting. So, if you're digging for something…or you may dig something that is point…full of pointless meanders and superfluous tangents, a friendly voice in the deep, dark night. You may be in the right place. Welcome to Sleep With Me. It took a while. Usually it doesn't take me this long to just barely…this is just the very introduction to the show, but I’m glad you're here. This show is very different. It’s supposed to be very different. It’s a friend in the deep, dark night to hang out with you, take your mind off of stuff so you could fall asleep. So, if you're new, give the show a few tries.
What we got coming up…we got a little bit of support so that paying for the show is optional, especially for new people if you're new or you're not in a place where you could support the show or you only listen time to time, then after the support is a long, meandering intro meant to ease you into bedtime, and then later on we’ll be…we’ll have our episodically modular series, Get Besos Big Farm in the Sky PI, which…those are some characters from that that you'll learn about more. All told, I’ll be here about an hour. I’m really glad you're here. If you're new or you're coming back, you're revisiting the show, or even…honestly, if you don’t like…you end up not liking the show or never listen again, I’m still glad you're here.
Stay tuned for a little bit. I’ll try to guide you somewhere where you could get some other sleepy stuff. But yeah, we work really hard on this show, and we want it out there available for everybody. So, if you're new, you're not in a position to support the show, you only listen time to time, you're just going through a hard time right now, a season of life, don't worry about it. But if you listen night after night, week after week, year after year, you fall asleep fast or you listen to a lot of episodes, we’ve been really trying since April of 2025 to get ahold of you, 'cause if you're in one of those groups, we really do need you to consider supporting the show so we can be around for…not just for you.
If you benefit in one of those ways, if the podcast changes your life in a positive way on a regular basis…it also changes other people’s lives on a positive basis from time to time, or people that just can't support the show. So, when you support the show for yourself, you support it for all these other people, and whether it’s supporting the sponsors or supporting the show directly, it changes the future…yeah. So, I appreciate you thinking about that. If the podcast positively impacts your life on a regular basis, here’s the ways you could positively impact the life of the podcast back.
INTRO: [INTRO MUSIC] Hey, are you up all night tossing, turning, mind racing? Trouble getting to sleep? Trouble staying asleep? Trouble waking up, which is what I’ve been going through, and not being…? Whatever it is, I’m here to keep you company and take your mind off of it so you could fall asleep, take your mind off whatever’s keeping you awake. It could be thoughts, it could be thoughts about the past, the present, the future, it could be feelings, anything coming up for you emotionally, it could be physical sensations, changes in time, temperature, routine, it could be a combination of things, a mystery, a change in your work schedule, maybe you work a different schedule, maybe you just don’t know.
Lately, getting to sleep has been a challenge for me, and I just don't know…I’m trying to practice my…it’s just taking a little bit longer than would be ideal, because throughout the night I’m also not waking up on my own. I’m being woken up to care for my pup, pup, puppy-poo or take her out and stuff. So, I’m having to stretch my nights a little bit longer, a lot like new parents in a sense. I never know when I’m gonna be up, and for how long. So, I don't know. The only reason…so, I know what that’s like, waking up and being like, oh man, and then trying to get back to sleep and all that. I don't know what brought you here, right, or what’s keeping you awake, what keeps you coming back if you're a regular listener.
But the reason I run through any of that…'cause sometimes people…they stop listening to the show 'cause I pointed out something that’s keeping them awake. I only do it at the beginning of the show because it is important, because in my experience of making this podcast over the past twelve years, hearing from people and my experience as a person who struggles with sleep, is that a lot of people out there don’t get it, and knowing that there’s someone out there…that there’s a lot of people out there that do get whatever it is that’s keeping you awake, even if they haven't been through the exact same thing, even if I don't understand what it is you're dealing with, we may be able to relate, even if our feelings aren't similar or parallel, or our struggles.
But the great news is there’s enough people listening around the world that somewhere out there right now…as soon as I said that, I thought about Fievel because…American Tale, that was one of the big songs of that. But somewhere out there in the world, there’s someone listening who really does understand where you're at. Right now in this moment, they are thinking of you fondly, wishing you well, wishing you a good night’s sleep — or a bore-friend situation — and they're rooting for you 'cause they know you deserve a good night's sleep. They know when you're rested your life is more manageable, your life is better, and they want that for you. They're really hoping for it for you.
So, yeah, they're out there, and not only that — they get to feel good that not only did they root for you and wish you well; they can get the sense that someone out there is wishing them well. But there’s also…the experience of wishing someone well in the deep, dark night and knowing that they have hurt like you've hurt and you're hoping for good things for them, a good night’s rest, it feels good. They hope, hey, one day maybe this podcast changes your life like it’s changed mine, and you could be wishing well for new listeners or regular listeners or people in the middle of something. That’s the thing; me sharing this stuff, I know there’s listeners that are wishing me and Koa well in the deep, dark night. So, that’s really the most important thing I’ll say, even if you never listen to the show again.
You deserve a bedtime without a bunch of rigmarole that you could look forward to or feel neutral about, and this is this nice, indirect community of people who do share something and care for one another. Even though it’s in a direct way, even though it might be…I don't know, it’s real even though…even if you're just lying there kind of thinking nicely of somebody else, that’s powerful, and receiving it is powerful, too. So, that’s why I’m glad you're here. Now, this show is very, very different, so whatever brought you here is probably different than what you expected. ‘Cause the way it works is I send my voice across the deep, dark night. I use lulling, soothing, creaky, dulcet tones, pointless meanders, and superfluous tangents. So, I go off topic, I get mixed up, my voice is not traditionally soothing, but it’s not half bad.
You say, okay, it’s not bad. Yeah, I’m just here to hang out with you and talk to you or talk with you or talk near you, so when…maybe you searched for something to help you sleep. Maybe you've spent your whole life like I have trying to find stuff that works, paying for stuff that works, and testing stuff out, and then you found this show. You say, well, what is…? You're going on and on about me not being able…I don't understand. I say, yeah, yeah, stick around. This show is very different. If you get here and you're skeptical or doubtful or a little bit irritable, that totally makes sense to me, because that’s what I’d be like if I got here through a search or a recommendation or a friend telling me about it. I say, what is this? What’s this going on here? So, just give it a few tries.
That’s what hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people have said to me; at first I didn’t like the show, the second time I was confused or disappointed, and then the third time I woke up the next day, and I said, wait a second, is this what I’ve been looking for? I had no idea something like this could even exist. So, just give it a few tries. Now, if you discover or you already know…like I said earlier, this podcast is not for you, you don’t…it’s okay not to like me, right? It’s okay if the show doesn't work for you. It is a niche thing or a niche…niche niches. It’s specific. It is…most people’s reaction is…that become regular listeners…oh, wait a second, I didn’t know something like this could exist. Huh, this is great.
But if that’s not your reaction…I mean, after the third try or immediately…yeah, I don't know…yeah, you're not my taste, that’s fine. We have a website set up for you, sleepwithmepodcast.com/nothankyou, and you could check out other sleep podcasts and sleepy stuff, 'cause everything I said up until this point is still true. I still…and all the other listeners want that for you. They all want something nice for you, a nice, restful bedtime. Sleep audio…I’ve been doing this a while now before it was a big thing, and…so, it’s different. It is…what works and helps some person out doesn't help everybody out, but we still share a lot of that underlying stuff. So, just give it a few tries and see how it goes.
One thing that takes some getting used to is this is a podcast you kind of listen to, like a TV on in the other room, a show streaming under a pillow, music down the street, or you know when somebody’s listening to a radio in the summertime and it carries and it’s kinda nice? You're kinda not listening to it. Or maybe sports. It’s something you can listen to, but you don’t have to. Or…I was trying to explain to somebody yesterday. They were confused 'cause I said…and it was my fault; I said, hey, my dog watches TV. They said, your dog watches TV? I said, yeah, when I’m not home. Well, she doesn't watch the TV. That’s where I lost them. She’s not looking at the TV; she’s listening to it, and particularly, she likes the sounds of Addams Family. But they were caught…your dog watches Addams…?
Oh, maybe it’s 'cause it’s…it was kinda like the sleepless stuff. They were like, maybe 'cause it’s in black and white? I go, no, no, no, she’s not watching…I’m sorry, I misspoke; she listens to TV. But at the point it was…but it’s very similar. Koa prefers The Addams Family over thousands of things I’ve tried. I’ve got a couple other things, but I’m not ready to say she likes them. She likes listening to it. Even though there’s only fifty-six episodes or something total, there’s something about it. What’s my point? Oh, she does not really…she’s not really listening, right? It’s not like she recaps the plot to me or tries to reenact it when we're out for a walk, or says, where’s the…? Why are you bringing my food? Why doesn't the hand bring me the food?
I say…I mean, if that happened, I’d be like, I don't…I guess I’d be like, okay, I can make another…I can make a sleep podcast for thirty more years pretty easily now, though I don't think I’ll run out of ideas, anyway. But that’d be helpful. Alright, so, what was my point? Oh, this is a podcast you kind of listen to like background noise, and this is also a sleep podcast that is not here to put you to sleep. I’m here to keep you company while you fall asleep. There is no pressure, no pressure at all, to fall asleep, no expectation that you need to have. The reason the shows are over an hour is so you don’t have to think about falling asleep. Even…I mean, even…though I point it out, it’s to offer some relief, right? That you say, okay, this show’s gonna be here for me. I say, yeah, it’s gonna be here whether you're listening or not.
So…'cause my job…well, there’s people listening who can't sleep at all, people who are waking up in the middle of the night, and who need a break during the day. They might be listening for a little while. So, I’m here to the very end throughout the whole show for them and for you, whether you're listening or not or whether you need…you say, okay, now I kinda need to listen. So, my job is to be your bore-friend, your bore-bae, your bore-sib, your bore-bud, your bore-bie, your bores, your boreman, your Boris Borlaf, your chairman of the boreds, your bore…your bore-sib, your bore-cuz, your best bore-friend f’eva to keep you company and hang out with you, just like a roommate or a friend.
You say…if you could call a friend every night and have them talk to you for an hour without any social compact…you say, okay, just…you can hang up, and I think my phone will auto shut off when you're done telling me about whatever you've been imagining or what show you watched or a book you read. ‘Cause we put out a lot of different styles of episodes to keep the selection coming. Yeah. So, yeah, I guess that’s…oh, so, it’s a podcast you don’t really listen to, it doesn't really put you to sleep. I keep you company so you could fall asleep. It does put people to sleep; it’s just…it takes some getting used to, like I said earlier. The structure of the show…I want to meet you where you are just in case you're new or you're coming back. We haven't changed the structure of the show in quite, quite some time.
But the show starts off with a greeting; friends beyond the binary, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, so you feel seen and welcomed in, then I try to talk in the style of the show so you get a sense of what the rest of the show is gonna be like, and you say, okay, it’s kinda…a little bit nonsensical. Maybe I’ll check it out. Then there’s support so that paying for the show is optional, 'cause there’s really two large pools of listeners, right? New listeners, occasional listeners, and people going through a tough time. Then there’s super listeners, like people that listen on a regular basis. For all those occasional listeners, new listeners, people who can't support the show, the sponsors and the listener support enable the show to be free for all those groups.
So, we do it together, really, and that’s what the support is about. Then there’s a long, meandering intro…oh, and if you prefer something without support, even if you only listen from time to time, you could get that on Sleep With Me+. Yeah, if you only listen time to time, just cancel your support when you're done listening to the show. But after the support is a intro, a show within a show, separate from the support. It’s about fifteen to twenty minutes long where I try to explain what the podcast is efficiently, but it takes me fifteen to twenty minutes.
I follow a familiar structure every time, but I get lost along the way so that every intro is different, every intro is familiar, but it has something new so that whatever’s keeping you awake can't quite point out that you should…I don't know, it’s just something I’ve learned over my own experience trying to find something to help me fall asleep. Anything repetitive only works for a little while, but something familiar but fresh that I feel a part of and that feels lighthearted, where I could smile, that’s the only thing that’s ever worked for me, and that’s what I try to make here, really, in the end. So, the intro is introducing that. But the reason it’s fifteen to twenty minutes, other than my inefficient extra meanders, is that the show is really here to ease you into bedtime, not to put you to sleep immediately.
If you fall asleep fast, please consider supporting the show on Sleep With Me+, 'cause there’s a small percentage of people that are falling asleep, and that’s great for them. But most people are getting in bed, getting comfortable, winding down, using…doing…brushing their teeth and that kind of stuff, or chilling out somehow; doodling, playing Solitaire. These are kinda…petting their pets, looking out the window, because that’s what works for me. What I’ve read works is having a wind down, and the intro is supposed to be the wind down or part of your wind-down routine, a buffer between the daytime and the nighttime or the…to ease you into bedtime like the sun setting. So, that’s what the intro’s here to do. Then after the intro will be…is that…? Yeah.
I just…then after the intro will be support, and then it’ll be our episodically modular series, Get Besos Big Farm in the Sky PI. This will be the first one we’ve done in a little while 'cause we ran different stuff over the holiday season. So, that should be exciting in the fact that it’ll offer a catch-up for you. So, yeah, all told, we’ll be here about an hour, and I’m really, really glad you're here. Whether you're new or you're coming back, I hope this podcast can help you out. If this podcast helps you out night after night, year after year, please consider helping the show out back. We can't be here without listeners that support the show back, but only the listeners that benefit the most. So, if you think you benefit a lot from the podcast, please consider it, and then we could be here for you and for everybody else, and here’s a couple ways you could do that. Thanks.
Alright everybody, Scoots here. This is our episodically modular series, Get Besos Big Farm in the Sky PI. What is…? So, this is a series with recurring characters that you could listen to in any order. If you're joining us, this might be a good time. This is our first episode of 2026, and we’ll catch you up on everything you need to know, and then you could listen to Episodes 1 through 15 just like they were…you say, they had fifteen prequels in that story? Well, I mean, whatever works for you, you know? You don’t have to listen to them in any order. That’s why I do it this way. But you could, or you could do both or you could listen to it out of order and then in order during the day, or a second listen or when you need a break. That’s why I make a episodically modular series.
Now, Get Besos Big Farm in the Sky PI is…oh boy, is it quite the series there. I mean, I remember just like it was not yesterday, but a little…some time ago, this show started in the Beige World, kinda like a unadorned dorm room with James Cash and Richard Warren. They were talking about this…the blandness. Or, you know, and…but one of them seemed like he had something else going on, because Richie, Richard Warren, AKA Richie, he was in a particularly good mood. He said he had been studying up on good choices and bad choices or not-so-great choices, and thinking about their…the previous series…the previous episodes of the series. Then he was talking about the musical Les Mis and Javert, Inspector Javert, and then they kinda reminisced.
They have been on a bunch of adventures, and they have kind of a…they're always trying to find…get Besos, spelled like ‘kisses’, right? But that’s someone’s last name, Jiff, who they are…they're kinda friends with sometimes and not other times. Jiff is a earthbound human, but they’ve spent their time…'cause they were once titans of retail industry. James Cash had a store named after him, JC something, JC Coinage. Oh boy, was that store great. Then Richard Warren had a store. Oh boy, Richard…it was just called Richie’s, and sometimes it was called by his last, last name. But Richie’s…it was probably…I wouldn't mind shopping at Richie’s. Sounds more like a place I’d get a Snapple than everything.
But they had throughout the history of their lives and their…oh, so, they're post-earthly humans, meaning they were once earthbound humans. They transitioned to the next realm. Their realm was a beige world, and then they decided…but Richie kinda decided he was…I guess he was feeling a little bit of envy, 'cause even in post-earthly realms, full disclosure, not everybody’s perfect. It’d take a little bit of the pressure off. They don’t expect you to be perfect in every post-earthly realm. There probably is a few. I mean, I don't…actually, I hope there isn't, but I’m perfectly imperfect, you know? So…but he was saying, huh, I’m not sure about this Jiff. He seems to have come up with this internet-based version of our businesses, and he’s the new titan of retail, but it’s no longer in-person retail.
So, they have had three seasons of adventures where they said, hey, let’s go back to Earth and find Jiff. That’s the ‘getting’ part. They say, where is he? We gotta go get him if he’s jet-setting or whatever. Then they say, let’s talk to him maybe sternly about his retail…our views on retail, his views on retail, and our legacy. Now, this particular time, it comes out that Jiff has a list that Richie made. Richie did not keep a copy of it. He sent them to look for earthbound humans that ended up…well, he said earthbound humans in non-positive realms. So, you say…let’s just say, the beige realm; kinda dull. Maybe you're there not to go…get Besos if you're there, but people make their choices. If you got into a realm and there was a neon sign that said ‘The perfectly…welcome to the perfectly imperfect realm.
You're perfectly imperfect and you're welcome here’, that could be a realm I’d be excited to be in, right? I’d say, that’s a positive realm, post-earthly realm. Now, if you got to a post-earthly realm that didn’t have…it had a more gloomy sign or a frowny…you say, is that…? That neon’s too bright, and it’s a frowny face. That could be that you're entering a non-positive post-earthly realm. There’s a lot of them that are well known, some that are…and in previous seasons we’ve visited some of them; circular ones, ovular ones, levels, stuff like that. Now, what Richie decided…and I gotta give him credit…he said, wait a second, there’s people in these non-positive earthly realms? That’s…I don't know how…I don't not know how I feel. I know how I feel about that, and I don't feel comfortable with that.
After…now, he only picked the people he likes, like in…now, he didn’t realize that Inspector Javert — or maybe he did — was a fictional character, but the perfect example is what happens. Well, he…that was one person on his list, right? Hey, this is not…is Inspector Javert in a non-positive earthly realm? No, he’s in a book or a musical. Okay, but he didn’t get…no one ran through that with him. Now, it ended up there was a technicality that probably is in other fictions where you…if you have a strong belief, at least in this particular piece of fiction, just in this particular piece of fiction…just repeating that so you could feel free to daydream. Don't worry about daydreaming in reality. But in this particular piece of fiction, if you had a strong belief in something, it actually made it palpable.
So, his belief that Inspector Javert was in a non-positive earthly realm…oh, by the way, also in non-positive earthly realms, you can't follow a logical path. You can explain things in a logical path, but it doesn't necessarily make any sense, and it doesn't necessarily apply. It’s just the limits of our language and my understanding. I mean, my intellectual understanding of these things. So, I’m simplifying it and kind of not expressing it perfectly. But basically, by thinking about Inspector Javert believing that he’s in a non-positive earthly realm, it kinda put Inspector Javert into a post-earthly reality, I guess you'd say. I mean, I can't get into the cosmic…whatever. Like, did this…? I don't know any of that. I’m just trying to explain what’s going on. So, anyway, but he’s also…so, he’s not just set on that.
He’s set on…he start…we start to get the sense that Jiff was not listening to Richie, 'cause basically, I guess he was supposed to find everybody on Richie’s list and then report back to Richie; oh, okay, I found Javert, your dear, dear Inspector Javert. So, then they say, well, now we gotta go…we don’t have a copy of the list? That was what Richie said; what do you mean you don’t have a copy of the list? No, but Jiff’s got the list…but I kinda remember some of the things on there. So, they go down. They meet with Skiffy, who runs a ferry boat down there. He’s good friends…Flagolas or something I think is his name, maybe? So, they get down there, then they start trying to find…I think…I can't remember the order of anything anymore. That’s why this show’s episodically modular. But they start to look for Javert.
They find out about one of the post-earthly realms, kind of a Norse one, and they meet some people there. I don't think they ever meet Javert, or maybe they do. They get him…Javert is very interested in this post-earthly realm. Eventually, I think they…'cause they want to reunite…oh yeah, they meet Javert’s mother, and then they're trying to reunite the two. I think that was successful. Also, there’s the Big Farm in the Sky PI. But maybe I’ll just run through…oh, and I think the Big Farm in the Sky PI helped them with that part. So, yeah, let’s see, what else? Then we go to…then we meet…I think we were supposed to meet Sisyphus, maybe? I don't know.
We go to another realm where…this is the Big Farm in the Sky PI…these realms that are being refurbished, presumably, or definitely by Jiff, seemingly for sorting, warehousing, fulfilling orders, and those kind of things. So, we start to get the hint of this idea that…wait a second, is Jiff gonna use the post-earthly realms in some sort of capital way, like division of working stuff? I say, wait a second, what is he up to? The Big Farm in the Sky PI is always helping people out. I think he helps out a few people. I mean, it doesn't necessarily make sense. That’s why it’s so great to sleep to, as well. Totally intentional. Then there’s some confusion around Sisyphus, right? Because there’s the big three, at least when I was growing up, and Sisyphus was one, and then the other two never necessarily got names, and I still never got this right.
So, I can't criticize Richie and James for not having it right. But there’s the water guy, the rock guy with the rolling rock, and then there’s somebody else. So, I guess it wasn’t the big three. I always thought there was somebody else, though. You say, which one of those was Sis…who was the rock guy? Was that Sisyphus? By the way, if you're listening to this and you know the answer, that’s good. If you're like me, try to use your inside voice when you're doing that, or your internal voice. Don’t say it out loud in public. Not that it’s necessarily the worst thing, but…or don’t say it when you're thinking and you're on a date and then you just say it to fill…there’s a gap in the conversation. What am I thinking about? Say, are you listening to me at all? Sisyphus…do you know if Sisyphus was the rock guy? I’m sorry, what?
I was talking about my day…oh. Well…sorry. Wait, did you say is Sisyphus the rock guy? What do you mean? So, anyway, back to the story. They try to help Sisyphus. They end up meeting Nafel, the cloud goddess, or I think they just debate about Sisyphus. Nafel has somebody…her ex, Axion or something, he needed help. He was on a wooden wheel. So, they help him. Oh, also at some point Richie becomes obsessed with being the first person to…to be the first person to make contact with not…how do you explain it in this context? Beings in the greater earthly realm, beyond the earthly realm, that aren't from planet Earth, sentient beings not from the planet Earth within that sphere. Not the sphere of Earth, though, so that makes it more confusing.
I guess in that phase of existence, which we're just using ‘earthly realm’ for, because…it should be less confusing, but it’s not. So, they do meet. So, other people we come across and help out; this Axion guy, at other points the horse lords and the horse ladies need some help. They were somehow related, I think, to Axion. Daedalus needs some help, so they get to meet for Daedalus, and also a bunch of other people in that realm that could have used some assistance. I believe there’s even imprompt…a improv night court show? I don't even know. They're redoing sitcoms? A lot of times, as they're rescuing these people, they don’t have any place to put them, so they put them in Florida.
When I say Florida, I mean our Florida, because the Big Farm in the Sky PI is friends with two earthbound humans who are in their early twenties, G and DK, and they live right outside of The Towns, the largest active lifestyle community for people over…I don't even know if it’s fifty-five or sixty or sixty-two, but it’s there. So, then also…they also…Richie wants to help Moriarty, not Moriarty from the books or the movies, but the Moriarty from the holodeck on TNG, Star Trek: The Next Generation. I think thinking he could outsmart him and use his smarts…or maybe again out of a little envy?
Luckily, I think Richie most…or James mostly intervenes and says…oh, also we find out at some point, I don't know when…I think this is a common thing, and probably the blanket’s name changes, but Richie had a blanket named Blanko that he loved very, very much that was taken away from him. So, really, within these hours and hours of…there’s a vulnerable moment he has about his Blanko. I think he writes a poem about it or something. Almost…James, Richie almost always…almost break up as best friends. That’s another…I guess you can't say it’s a trope because if you listen to the show at all, you'd say, hm, it makes sense. Another thing I’ll just tuck in here now…and I’ve done more and more of a better job at making sure Richie is totally fictional, right?
Even though personality…he’s been around for a long time, since the beginning of the podcast, almost. So, there may be common figures that are similar to Richie, but they must have listened to the podcast and said, man, this is the way to be, a titan of retail. So, any similarities to Richie are probably…I guess he’s inspiring people? You say, okay, I guess…huh, interesting. Okay. Well, he did have a blanket he loved, so that part is true. Oh, who else do we have here? So, they get the…they do take the drive that Moriarty’s on, even though we only learn about it later. I think we meet somebody named Pithy who also needed help.
That’s someone not…I don't think he’s Nafel and this Axion’s child, but that’s when the horse lords and the horse ladies help them, 'cause they're stuck…a lot of times in these post-earthly realms, you get stuck in these loops, and especially in the ones that are most portrayed in what I may come across, which is limited…you know what I’m saying. So, at some point there’s horse lords and horse ladies, multiple people from mythology, fictional beings all in Florida. Simon, the Big Farm in the Sky PI, continues to help out with all that. One of the good things that happened was even though James was really into the Silver Surfer…this was before the Final…or not…the Fantastic Four movie came out, too. Luckily they didn’t get involved in any of that. I mean, that’s good news for everybody.
Then a couple other things that come up is…at some point we learn about this conference, and the conference is for people that are involved…there keeps being hints about it for people that work in the post-earthly realms. Simon meets Lilith, who’s a librarian in the post-earthly realms. She was…or she was a classics professor on Earth, a librarian in the post-earthly realm. Lilith says, I could help you if you get me into that conference. She had heard of it. She goes, I’d like to go back to Florida, and I’d love to be a human again. It turns out that’s a big thing, 'cause they get to this conference and they…everybody…so, there’s a conference…now, this makes sense on paper.
So, okay…so let’s see, we're talking a lot about…a lot of people…if you consumed…progression through imagination and fiction was like mine, you got the sense, oh, there’s only one post-earthly realm. Like, that’s kinda my…let’s just use me as an example. I don't want to put it on anybody else. Oh, there’s only one post…or, well, there’s a few options for your post-earthly realm; Beige World, which is where James and…that’s the middle one. You say, eh, it’s not great, but it’s not the one where the red spandex and elasticene are. Then you say, on the other side is the great…you say, where everything’s great. It’s unbelievably awesome. Then you get on and you maybe watch a movie, like Defending Your Life or you see The Good Place or Betel…Juice d’Betel, and you say, huh, interesting.
Or maybe you start to read more. You might read more fiction or nonfiction. Maybe you explore other spiritual paths. Then you say, I wonder…I do wa-wa-wonder if there’s other post-earthly realms. Then if you get to the point I do, you say, okay, is there within this fiction I’m telling you or…limitless ones or not? Probably not, because people gotta work there. So, the people that work in all these post-earthly realms…maybe there’s a lot, because, man, you think about it; there’s probably a lot of people looking for jobs in the post-earthly existence, and — this is a assumption — but also, if there’s non-human, non-post-earthly-human forms of existence, those people may or may not need jobs.
You say, wait, that’s…well, on Star…people worked at Starfleet, and there was that whole, whatever, humanist utopia with the replicators. So, people still had jobs in Star Trek. So, before…I don't know why I’m using that to defend myself. But you say, yeah, people like to have purpose and something to do that gives them purpose. So…and the post-earthly realms…and maybe those things are organized like jobs. So, there’s people that have jobs running post-earthly realms, and if you have a job and then maybe you don’t…you work…you say, what happened to Brad Braderson? Oh, he’s…yeah, he used to run a water slide plane.
Oh boy, and…but, you know, he said, huh, I don't know, I’d rather…he wanted to try something new, so he works over in…there’s not a human word for it, so it’s beyond…it does involve some sort of goop, but other than that, I don't quite know. Light…beams of light and goop or something. I’m not sure. He works there, though. It’s a post-earthly realm. He loves it. Oh, is he gonna be at this conference? Oh, what’s the conference? Oh, it’s a conference for people that work in post-earthly realms. Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t approve your…even though I’m your supervisor and we're talking, I realize I didn’t approve your request to go to the conference. I also didn’t give you the conference information. So, even in this post-earthly realm, I’m not really an effective supervisor.
But now I could tell you, if I was in a perfect…I would…if I was in a post…a perfect post-earthly realm, I would have approved it all. But since I didn’t, I’ll just tell you about the conference. Plus, it’s fictional, so it only exists in…huh, but now it exists outside of myself. But anyway, so, in this post…so, this conference is where…well, apparently they do this a couple times a year or however they chart time. I don't know. I’m still in the post…I’m still in the earthly realm. But they…so, they…what was I saying? Apparently they compare…hey, how’s it going? They become friends. They talk about things they have in common, things they do differently. They share information; best practices, ideas, and they have a lot of fun.
But there’s other times in the history of…beyond history that…they also say, well, we're changing some things around, and we're wondering what we should do. Then people have proposals, so…also, these guys, Richie and James Cash, keep making the universe prove its resiliency. But every time you do that, it creates a lot of chaos. So, they deal with stuff like this. At this particular conference, there was a proposal — lo and behold, it was from Jiff. How he pulled that off, I don't know — to kinda restructure everything in the afterlife so it would be good for everybody. So, it was pitched as a win-win, but even win-wins can be tough. Change is tough on everybody. So, the conference was basically about that. So, who wouldn't want to go to that conference? But you can't just get in, right? So, that’s why Lilith wanted to go.
Also, we learned at the conference that they're gonna go to Earth and trick-or-treat, because this one’s around…was around the autumnal season. They trick-or-treat in some way where they get to kind of do a ride-along with a human. There was a competition where you could pitch…where should we go trick-or-treating? I guess historically people always pitched what they had nostalgia for, where Lilith and Simon pitched…what if we go trick-or-treating where adults trick-or-treat, in The Towns? It’s the largest active lifestyle community in earthly existence that I know about, and humans…active-lifestyle humans go trick-or-treating. Wait a second, what? Yeah. Well, that would be different. So, people were voting for it, but also Jiff was kinda trying to get this vote for his vision of the new post-earthly realm.
The only challenge was even positive change is tough, as we all know, and even win-wins, changing from something to a win-win, it involves a lot of…I’m not so sure about that. So, that was also…so, Jiff kinda made some adjustments to send those people trick-or-treating so they wouldn't not vote. I don't know if you need…I don't know if it’s a majority system or not, or if it’s one of those conscious…whatever, everybody…it does not have to be a full agreement, but…so, yeah, Jiff was working the system. So, then the Big Farm in the Sky PI and Lilith, they end up at the conference. They find Jiff, and they realize Jiff is trying to change his vote. They go through the portal to go to The Towns to trick-or-treat. That was the last we kind of…our story was with them. Then James and Richie…I gotta find my notes.
Somehow they end up back there, and they end up at the conference somehow. I don't know if this was when Blanko was involved, but they find out Jiff’s in Florida, and also because of this, because Jiff…because of all this messing around…like, when people say quit messing around with the post-earthly realms…that they said, we're gonna bring in the person who wears red elasticene spandex tights to do a kinda…wipe the slate clean type thing, because this isn't good for time and space and exist…and existence is only so resilient. So, that person shows up. Then Richie and James are kinda going back and forth. From their perspective, they said, I’ve been portrayed non-positively for, whatever, millennia. Now everybody needs me to save existence as we know it.
Finally, I have a positive role to play in this great drama called existing, whatever, in many realms beyond our understanding. But James and Richie are like, nah, we don’t want you resetting everything or getting involved. So, I don't know what long-term…I mean, outside of this fictional story, they download this person that’s been portrayed for thousands of years…at least as a kid, I thought that was it. This was the…when you play a video game, this was the final boss, you know, that people that make choices like me end up facing, and it’s not…but so, they end up taking this final boss in the red elasticene spandex, and they get them downloaded into Moriarty’s drive with Moriarty, and I think it’s just a one-way journey. So, that was…so, that’s how we left off with them.
Then they were like, okay, we're gonna go to Florida now, too, and get Besos. So, I think that’s kinda how we left off. I do…am curious what non-earthbound current intelligence thinks about this. So, I did run this through here. So, let’s read some of this. Complex, highly changeable environment with post-earthly realms and mythology…it was very diverse, merging fact and fiction…a constant state of flux, cosmic resilience due to disruptive interventions. The nature and diversity of PER as post-earthly realms is a fundamental premise of this series. So, this is from computer-based intelligence. I said, hey, tell me about this stuff, 'cause…the realms are very…ranging from mundane to elaborate. The Beige World is where Richie and James are. It’s called other things; the middle place. Dull, boring, very beige.
Unadorned dorm room with not much room except for a desk and a bed. It exists outside the regular flow of time, and you get assigned there. You're not supposed to leave until officially transferred. Non-positive earthly realms…this says ‘uppers’. These are commonly-referenced areas, double-hockey-stick regions that impose internal lessons or repetitive, non-positive experiences. Many of the characters Richie seeks to rescue are located there. PERS, post-earthly facilities and conferences, are not purely mystical. There’s infrastructure and collaborative efforts such as the gatekeepers of the Afterlife Conference and Symposium. This conference is a place of those who work in the business of running post-earthly realms…discussing new initiatives and cross-pantheon collaboration.
A key concept is the permeability between fiction and reality within the post-earthly context. Belief creates reality. Richie believes that the moment he and James thought about a particular character like Inspector Javert, the role of fiction characters from mythology and fiction with famous post-earthly existences can be real. Even Moriarty’s existence on a quantum drive could be considered a post-earthly realm. Archetypal existence…certain geophysical features or concepts have become archetypal. Even figures from a theme park ride — oh, I forgot about that one — like the children from It’s A Little World, It’s A Tiny Earth or whatever we're in, that becomes a manufactured most positive post-earthly realm that they must perpetually sing in. Okay, here’s characters. Okay, this is interesting.
Mythological figures and their predicaments…Javert, he’s in a Norse realm called El, and he gets helped by Richie and James. Then there’s Axion, a post-earthly being kind of on a permanent loop that’s warm. Pithy is son of Axion. He’s in an upper. He was…he had a crush on Persephone, who was partners with Hot Eyes, and he had to carry rocks and forget things. The horse lords and the horse ladies, they're Nafel’s children. They messed up Pithy’s wedding, and they were stuck in a forgetful…they kept repeating their existence. Daedalus constantly building a labyrinth…and he had to be…deal with Talos and Minos and his son and all that. Sisyphus…Richie’s confused understanding of Sisyphus has him falling in a bog and being unable to drink water. What else?
The overall context of the series highlights the universe’s ability to resist and recovery from major disturbances caused by Richie and James, who were never supposed to leave their assigned realm. Cosmic resilience…the universe or all universes is described as incredibly resilient. Despite Richie and James disrupting things, the universe has been able to recover. The Sears-Penny phenomenon or Sears-Penny thing, the chronic meddling and subsequent recovery is inadvertently created with opening up new frontiers and making the universe more open and more collaborative and more friendly and more curious. There’s some irony, I guess, or paradox. The next phase, the disruptions in the search for Jiff, are intertwined with this new initiative for the afterlife.
Jiff, while they're trying to scold him, is proposing major reorganization and repurposing of post-earthly existences potentially to benefit his Earth-based businesses. The initiative was nearly passed by consensus at the Gatekeepers of Afterlife Conference, but there’s concern that Jiff’s meddling could push existence past the point of resiliency. Let’s see what else we got. Okay, this is with Javert again. Motivation…Richie divides…identifies Javert as misunderstood, who was just trying to determine right from wrong. He likes the character and wants the story resolved in a way that’s pleasurable to himself and Javert. But he ends up in Elgrind. Javert voluntarily integrated into Elgrind and refuses to leave because he found a new mission, waiting for the great, big beginning.
He’s maintaining a belief system similar to his behavior on Earth, so they pretend that…I think they pretend that his mom’s dating Jean Valjean or something. Sisyphus is a quintessential archetype that Richie misunderstands. Richie’s narrative is Sisyphus fell into a bog with a mechanical frog as a friend, and he has to sit in the bog without being able to drink the water. Richie views this eternal repetition as fundamentally wrong, and it was unfair. Then Axion is…they help him with the…I don't know, I think some of this is not correct, but it could be. Oh yeah, they use a observed, non-earthly vehicle, a OAV. Then they…oh, they're supposed to help his son, but they get the wrong son. They have Pithy, but they're looking for something.
He’s dealing with an internal lesson similar to Sisyphus, for trying to date Sisyphus when she was already dating or in a long-term relationship with Hot Eyes. Horse lords and horse ladies…oh, we talked about that. They messed up the wedding. What else do we have here? Daedalus…Richie wanted Daedalus rescued because he was deemed smart and could invent something to help them, like birdseed. There’s actually a episode on a ship, too. I don't see that in here. I forgot about it as well, but…then Moriarty…oh no, here it is. Okay, so, let’s catch up on this one, 'cause I forgot about it. The computer knew about it.
Okay, Larry Vaughn and Jay Bruce, they're on a transport ship in a non-positive realm in a perpetually-looping day, the same day that Kate Winslet and Leo DiCaprio…when they were very much younger, twenty, thirty years ago, they were in that loop, too. Larry Vaughn’s a former mayor. He works on the ship rearranging deck chairs that constantly slide around. Richie’s been in correspondence with him. Jay Bruce is a fictional shipping magnate, and Richie, I think, owes him money. He works serving customers rearranging deck chairs. This is kinda like one of those Undercover Boss episodes. So, Richie and James pretend they're supervisors, then they realize they're…we're rearranging deck chairs, which the computer points out is a metaphor. In this case, it’s actually happening.
Then the pair realize that Jay Bruce and Larry Vaughn wanted them to come there, and they took their frog…they have a ship that’s a frog, a mechanical frog. Oh, and then the silver children of the small world, similar to the ride in the theme parks…Richie doesn't real…he really thinks that the end is a post-earthly realm where the children have to sing. Oh, he gets this idea from the Silver Surfer when James is talking about it, 'cause he believes the animatronic children in the finale, they don’t…they have to work all the time. They don’t get to go home like the other animatronics on the ride. So, what they do is they have the pony lords and pony ladies move the children or their essences out of that specific room, solving the problem. Okay, what is this?
The targets in the context of mythology and post-earthly operations, PERS, post-earthly…so, it’s the power of belief. The upper realms, the Sears-Penny…oh, we talked about that. Rules of post-earthly existence in Get Besos…okay, so, these realms are governed by unexpected rules susceptible to disruption, and operate in a state where fictional reality holds significant weight. The foundational state…oh, that’s just for this story, is the Beige World. It’s a waiting area out of the flow of time. Resilience of the universe is another core concept. Universal recovery…the universe or all universes, as is described as incredibly resilient, even when the characters disrupt it. The universe can pull itself together. Timelines can heal from scratches. There is a limit to the resilience.
What else do we have? Self-contained computer…real to somebody…these are other ideas that it’s fixated on. Self-contained computer universe…there’s a Sisyphus misconception. What is this? Afterlife and restructuring…Big Farm in the Sky…formal infrastructure. Oh, that includes the Big Farm in the Sky library and a place to hold the conferences. Purpose…okay, this is, again, repetitive. Huh, this may be totally repetitive. Yeah, I think that’s everything. So…oh, wait, so we didn’t get…so, I guess that catches you up for next time, for our next episode coming in a few weeks of Get Besos Big Farm in the Sky PI. Thanks for listening, and goodnight, everybody.
