[START OF RECORDING]
SCOOTER: Friends beyond the binary, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, it’s time for the podcaster who’s bringing you your summer favorites to put you to sleep. It’s time for Sleep With Me. If you’re new, this podcast is a bit different. We’re doing a little summer series looking back at episodes listeners really love. Believe it or not, we’ve been making this show ten years plus, over 1,200 episodes, and this show is a bit different. It does take some getting used to. We have a lot of varieties of styles of shows, but the real goal of the show is to take your mind off of stuff, to give you something else to listen to like a friend who’s rambling on and on and on, who keeps you company so that you could fall asleep, who makes the deep, dark night feel less lonely, but a silly friend, a goofy friend. So, I hope you like the show. I hope it can help you. It does take some getting used to. That’s what just most listeners say. So, give it a few tries. See how it goes.
What we got coming up is support so the show is free for everybody, then a long, meandering intro that’s meant to ease you into bedtime. If you prefer a show without a long, meandering intro, we now have bedtime stories from Sleep With Me available everywhere, and that’s just the story-only portion of episodes. But yeah, the meandering…long, meandering intro, for a lot of people, helps ease them into bedtime and…getting ready for bed. Or, some people just love the intros 'cause they’re friendly and silly. Then there will be a bedtime story, about forty, fifty minutes. So, I’m glad you’re here. I appreciate you checking the show out, and here’s how we get to do it for you for free twice a week, and thanks for making the show possible, my bore-friends.
Hey everybody, this is Scoots here. This is a part of our summer series. This is a bonus episode that came out a few years ago, so this is the first time it’s coming out. It used to be only available to subscribers. If you like this kind of bonus material, check out…we’re doing tons of stuff this summer, Subscriber Summer, on Sleep With Me+ with exclusive on-location episodes, episodes from hotel balconies, catalog episodes, I’m reading a novel, all sorts of wild stuff. It’s a little bit more freeform than a normal Sleep With Me episode, but if you really love episodes that are a little bit different like this one, check out Subscriber Summer.
You could get access to this summer, last summer, all the bonus episode…we did in the past, too. But yeah, here’s a little sampler, a summer sampler series, I guess…sleepy summer sampler series, and thanks so much for listening. I couldn't make the show without you. I really, really appreciate it, and I really appreciate the people who supported the show in the past, or if you’re not in a position to support the show but you support the sponsors or you’re a part of our referral program…I love making these experimental episodes so I love the chance to share one of these with you, 'cause, yeah, they’re a little bit more silly and fun. So, thanks so much.
INTRO: [INTRO MUSIC] Alright, hey, are you up all night tossing, turning, mind racing? Trouble getting to sleep? Trouble staying asleep? Well, welcome. This is Sleep With Me, the podcast that’s here to put you to sleep. We do it with a bedtime story. Alls you need to do is get in bed, turn out the lights, and press Play. I’m gonna do the rest. What I’m going to attempt to do is create a safe place where you could set aside whatever’s keeping you awake, whether it’s thoughts and thinking — my brain just started thinking right when I was in the middle of that sentence — physical sensations, emotional things, distractions, mind-moving…hopefully no mind-melding. Maybe we’ll talk about that 'cause I don't even know what that really means. But whatever it is that’s keeping you awake, I’d like to take your mind off of that.
I’m gonna try to create a safe place where you can set aside whatever’s keeping you awake. I’m gonna smooth it, I’m gonna pat it, I’m gonna rub it down and I’m gonna say, ‘safe place’ just like it was the eighties. But whether you’re eighty or your name is incorrectly said by BB-88, who will be returning to the screen soon, I believe, I’m glad you’re here and I really hope I can help you fall asleep. If you’re new…oh, what am I do…? I’m gonna send my voice across the deep, dark night. I’m gonna use lulling, soothing, creaky, dulcet tones, pointless meanders, a comforting presence, if I can provide that. I’ll be here. I’ll be here to keep you company while you fall asleep. Now, if you’re new, here’s the structure of the show; the first six minutes are business. It’s a sleep podcast, so we gotta put them up front. If you’re new, not super-important.
If you’re a regular listener, please remember how you want to support the show when your hand hits the fridge tomorrow. Sponsors spreading the word are supporting us on Patreon. Those are the most efficient ways. So, that’s the first six minutes, then we have an intro which we just begun that’s usually about twelve to fourteen to seventeen to eleven minutes. Usually I try to create a metaphor. Sometimes I overuse alliteration. Tonight will be a perfect opportunity, 'cause I try to create a metaphor to describe what the podcast is. Tonight I might be using mind-melding and mentalists, 'cause I don't know if I’ve talked about any of that in the intro before, and I…it’s a subject my mind can barely scratch the surface of. But I’m glad you’re here; I’ve said that already. Thanks, brain.
My brain likes to remind me…but I’m here to create a safe place. We can make mistakes, by the way, brain. Glad you’re here, brain. I wouldn't be here without you. Ba-dum. A little inside joke between me and my…it’s not a joke, my brain just said. I wouldn't be here without my brain. Of course I’m relying on you. Oh boy, I’m so lucky to have a brain that overthinks. Okay, save the sarcasm for my limbic system. Totally, yeah. Don’t go somatic on me, brain, whatever that…oh, that’s the…is that the limbic system? Please, brain, tell me more. That was sarcasm. I gotta get outta my brain. So anyway…so, that’s the intro and it’s kinda to set the mood. If you’re new, it’s to kinda welcome you.
Some people skip the intro, some people fall asleep during the intro, people call their pets during the intro, people do lotion-application, pillow-placement, adjusting…making sure the top is on your water, your light shutting-out. Whatever it is, that’s what the intro is here for. It’s for prepping or for falling asleep. You can't really misuse the intro. Then there will be a story portion of the show. Tonight we’re gonna be covering the Fearless Flyer, the summer…this summer in Fearless Flyers, maybe, or…I think, and explaining what Trader Joe’s is and then me carping, as they say, about how Trader Joe’s doesn't sponsor the podcast, and why would they when I just give them free advertising and spend all my money there? Yeah, and why do I make this podcast? I have trouble falling asleep, believe it or not.
But if you’re new, you’re also under…you’re under no pressure to fall asleep and you’re under no pressure to listen. I’ll be here to keep you company. This podcast doesn't actually put you to sleep. It’s here as a companion while you drift off. I’ll be here at your side or at the foot of your bed or across the room keeping company…and as you drift off. I’m here just to distract you. I’m here in a service role and if you want, I could even…if it helps, you could picture me pet…curled up like a pet on the ground in a roll, you know, rolled up like a puppy. Actually, I think regular dogs are better at curling up in balls than puppies. Puppies do more lounging. So, that’s the intro, then the story, then there’s some thank-yous at the end. So, you shouldn’t feel any pressure to fall asleep. I’ll be here for an hour.
There are a percentage of listeners that don’t fall asleep, and I’m here whether you’re asleep or awake. I’ll be here for you. I’m dedicated. I’ve been doing the show — when this comes out — for over four years, 'cause you deserve a good night's sleep. That’s really one of the things that drives me. The other thing that drives me is I’ve been there feeling alone, tossing and turning, and if my goofing around can help, I’d be honored to. So, no pressure to fall asleep, no pressure to listen. Believe me, you’re gonna quickly learn 'cause…okay, so, I have these two words that popped into my brain…I guess technically it would be three words; mind-meld and mentalist. I think mentalists probably were people that perform…I don't even know what a mind-meld is. I think it’s similar to a mind-reading.
I think it’s if you take a mind-reader and a seance and you combine them into a magic show. That may be…that’s one kind of mind-meld. The other kind of mind-meld, I think…well, maybe there’s three kinds. I guess…oh boy, I didn’t realize how deep we could go with this mind-melding stuff. I guess then there’s another one that usually happens in a laboratory with Tesla coils and bubbling stuff and someone with an assistant, a scientist with a E-V to the I to the L…maybe just a misguided genuis scientist or just a misguided scientist, too. They may try mind-melding. Of course, who’s our favorite mad scientist…is Rick from Rick and Morty. I don't know if…there is a lot of near-mind-melding action. I’m thinking of an episode…or de…there was a de-melding episode this…Season 3. Anyway, I don't want to get too distracted.
So, that’s one kind of mind-melding, where you’re combining two minds or…and then there’s movie…this would be…I guess this is mind-melding. It’s mind-changing, though. I guess it isn’t melding. There’s the movies…of course none of the names…the one I watched the most as a kid was the Kirk Cameron and Dudley Moore…where they changed…their minds…I don't think they melded. Or, Big; that was more…that wasn’t a mind-melding, either. Pondering Mind-Melding in Cinema, Course 301. It’s by adjunct professor, Scooter. So, there’s one with Jodie Foster, I think, maybe. I remember the one with Kirk Cameron and Dudley Moore. I think…who else has been in a mind-melding one? Those are more like switcheroo movies. I think they’re usually called the switcheroo. 16 to 31 or something?
31 Going On 16; that was a more modern one, I think, something like that. 16 Going On…12 Going On 30. I guess that’s more of a brain-change or a consciousness-change. I don't…I guess it is a full brain-change, 'cause in the Dudley Moore/Kirk Cameron one, Kirk Cameron’s the teen and Dudley Moore is a surgeon, and their brains switch. So, then the high-school body of Kirk Cameron has Dudley Moore’s brain. I know…I can hear what you’re saying; isn’t Dudley Moore English and Kirk Cameron’s from the Midwest? I’d say, possibly. I’m not sure. You may be getting Arthur…it’d be cool if Arthur changed his brain with Dudley Moore. Okay, here’s a question; Being John Malkovich, is that an example of mind-melding in cinema? That’ll be on the quiz in my course.
I have the first Coursera course to have zero customers, 'cause I only ask questions…what’s the course? Well, it’s questions about mind-melding in modern cimena. Cinema or cinnamena? Well, one of those things. So, I guess we…mind-melding is a topic I can talk about, clearly, and here’s a thing I’ll…I’ll take my meld to my mind right now and make a proposal for you; were you thinking about whatever was keeping you awake while I was going on that tangent there? I didn’t even get to mentalists, but maybe…I’ll have to save that for another time. That is one of the characters that I want to write and one of the more…they’re a kind of magician, in my opinion.
I don't know, I’m not a foremost expert on mentalism, and I think…I find all…I…easily fooled, so I love magic and I love mentalism when it’s for entertainment purposes only. Don’t try melding with my mind, 'cause it’ll be your problem. Good luck with that. But I love…they’d say…this is a very basic example of mentalists; they say, think of a number between 1 and 1,000, and they would guess the number instantly. You say, how the heck did you do that? They say, 964. You say, whoa. They say, well, I mind…maybe they did mind-meld. That would be more of a number…so, that’s a mentalist. I don't know what that has to do with anything other than I think mentalists…maybe that’s part of their act.
I don't want to say that, but their performance, that at some points they mind-meld with a audience member to do something cool. Yeah. So, by the way, it’s a podcast to put you to sleep, believe it or not. I’m here to help you fall asleep. I’m just here to ramble, to distract you with stuff just on the edge of inane, banter…barely banter, kinda like the Banter Cast. So, I’m glad you’re here. The reason I make the show is 'cause I’ve been there. I had…I woke up at 5:00 this morning, so…tossing and turning, mind racing, trouble getting back to…trouble staying asleep, I guess in that case. So, if I can help you, it would be my honor because I really do think you deserve…I really do deserve to think that you deserve a good night's sleep, and I hope I can help. This podcast, though, unfortunately doesn't work for everybody, clearly.
Some of you may have already hung up, and I understand that. Some of you may still be listening. Believe me, I got…I’ve gotten every e-mail already, so you don’t gotta…just move on. Check out some…maybe check out some Coursera courses or something. LibriVox…there’s other podcasts out there that…or nature sounds. Old-time radio; that’s another thing that’s popular to fall asleep to. So, check some of that stuff out. I’m sorry I can't help, but give it a few tries. That’s what almost every review says. The first time you listen to the show, you’re like, what the heck? Second time, you say, what’s up with…why is his dulcet so creaky? Ideally, the third or fourth time, you start falling asleep really good and I become your bore-friend. So, I’m here to help. I appreciate you, of all the podcasts out there, choosing this one to give a try to. As I said and as I say in every intro, I really hope and I really yearn…I work very hard. So, I hope you fall asleep. Thanks for stopping by.
Alright patrons, it’s Scoots here and I’ve got a…in front of me, the August 2021 Fearless Flyer. So, if you’re listening to this…I don't know when in the future you are. I’m recording this in September, so hopefully I’ll be able to make a combo episode, maybe with the one with all the pumpkin stuff. But this was the first one I picked up in a while. I think I picked it…oh, I guess it was the end of the August when I was in there. It felt like September already. But it’s the Culinary Compendium. Fearless Flyer, Culinary Compendium; double alliteration. It kicks off with a non-dairy oat beverage. It doesn't…it calls it a oat beverage versus oat milk, which I don't know…this sticks out to me. Some places call it a beverage, some places call it milk, and I don't know the difference. I think we do…we did go through one thing of this.
They say there’s oat and water…mildly milky-sweet, but they didn’t add cane sugar. They just added balanced sweetness by breaking down the starches naturally present in oats to create sugars. I do like an oat beverage or an oat milk, but I do find that I…my daughter prefers an almond beverage. When I compare…usually I’m having it as…I guess I feel like the oat beverage is more on the same caloric intake and stuff as regular dairy milk, where the almond beverage is usually about 60…no, no, 40% to 50% less. So, I do find myself drinking more. But I did make an overnight oats with a non-dairy oat beverage, which is always fun. So, you’re getting double your oat beverage.
I saw this when I was there but I didn’t buy it; spicy…I’ve been to Trader Joe's twice, recent…like, in the last six weeks, and I saw this spicy porkless plant-based snack rind, but I did not buy it. Let’s see…the people said it’s not possible. Lo and behold, we got it. Crispy, crunchy, and salty and satisfying. Oh, so, it’s crispy and crunchy, it’s vegan, gluten-free, and kosher-certified. They’re baked, not fried. Whoa boy, seven grams of protein per one ounce. So, I’m gonna have to look at this. I’ll probably buy it the next time I’m there. Baked and high in protein…I’ll check it out. Then they have matcha green tea powder for one or two, and…let’s see, the sheer portability…so, it must come in…maybe it comes in a tin? Oh no, this is individual packets of unsweetened matcha, and then it comes with a recipe.
It has a delicate hint of sweetness and it comes with seven single-serve packets for $6.99. They also have a recipe with oat…oat matcha latte; water, oat milk, and matcha. Oh, I guess 'cause that would have caffeine, 'cause matcha has caffeine, right? Okay, but so far I haven't had anything yet. Cold-pressed pineapple juice; twelve ounces for $2.99. So, that’s a little bit…it probably is delicious. Hydrolic press, maximum extraction…HPP, high-pressure processing. It says ‘lunch on the go’ and it has a teacher saying, so you see, class, there’s nothing virtual about the values at Trader Joe's. She’s at a ABC chalkboard. Then they have sliced bread for sandwiches, and some people might not think…whatever.
They say, they sailed the culinary seas looking for interesting products to share, and we found some high-quality…they have sliced white or whole-wheat breads. Our whole wheat is braked…with whole-wheat flour and honey. Soft and moist…the white bread is unbleached sour…soft flour, soft and fluffy textures. Both loaves are slow-cooled. Ooh, yeah. Then they even have some tips to maybe try some fresh-packed strawberry preserves, creamy no-stir peanut butter, cheddar and gruyere melange on the whole wheat, or…black forest ham, roasted, sliced turkey, and a side of sweet-and-spicy pickle chips and onions. Every twenty-two-ounce loaf is $1.79.
I will say that when I’m recording this, if you patrons have been following along, I’m working out of a co-working space two or three days a week now, and so, I pack a lunch. Usually I have half a breakfast and then my other half of the breakfast is a snack later. So, I have had peanut butter and jelly for both lunch and breakfast as well as…but I haven't gotten Trader Joe's bread. I am big on that popular bread now. I don't want to say the name, but I like the seeded one. They have a thin-slice version of the bread, so you can eat two slices and kinda…it’s whole wheat, so…I don't know, I like that bread and it tastes good and it has seeds on it or in it, so I like that. Then they talk about their oven breast…oven breast and ham. Even though I’m a ham on the mic, you…I don't know if you do know this; I’m not a ham fan.
I probably am a fan of…I probably could eat more ham without objection — and I actually don’t know the difference between black forest ham and regular ham — but I think at some point in my life…I think it was a dry ham, maybe dry Easter hams year after year…and then maybe because I had ham for lunch maybe two or three years or more in a row because once I found something I ate, I just ate that for lunch every day…so, maybe I just had too much hams…too many ham sandwiches, 'cause I think we had more ham than turkey as kids. My mom was…had to make lunch for six kids. I can't believe that. I mean, at some point I would think…my daughter makes her own lunch or prepares her own lunch. So, I wish I was more like my daughter. Pretzel bagels; now, this was…has always been one of my big buys.
I haven't bought them in years because I’m trying to eat more whole grains. But if you want a treat…I used to love this for breakfast or for lunch. Maybe I’ll pick some up. Instead of a pretzel roll I’ll have pretzel bagels, 'cause it has…I love a pretzel roll…like, have a burger on a pretzel bagel. I love pretzel bagels, one of the…I haven't had them in maybe two years? I thought they stopped selling them, but clearly they do. I know I’ve talked about it probably in the three…100, 105, 100 episodes of the podcast. So yeah, Trader Joe's pretzel bagels; $2.69. Now, the next thing I had…and I think when I first had it, I probably…I needed a snack.
I don't know if I…maybe I missed my lunch, so I ate about half a bag…so, I would say be cautious if you buy these Carolina gold style BBQ-flavored ridge-cut potato chips that they shorten by CGBS. It is…it’s a good flavor 'cause it’s kind of more of a mustery Carolina BBQ sauce. So, it’s not…it doesn't taste the same as a BBQ chip. It’s similar but different, and I highly recommend it. Also right…good amount of crunch. I would recommend this with…I didn’t try it, but with just…what’s that stuff called with chickpeas? Hummus by itself…a plain hummus, maybe? Or, I mean, if you really…if you’re eating it on the weekend, on the day…you’d maybe even like…some sort of ranch or onion dip would be even…like a cooling dip. Not that this is spicy, but it’s…you know what I’m saying.
Okay, next up we got fig cookie physics, Trader Joe's fig cookies. What are the difference between fig cookies and Newtons? Maybe just…they have Sir Isaac Newton next to it. It says, heavy. First, these cookies will absolutely remain in the package. I rest until act…oh, that’s the jokes about physics. Every time you take a fig cookie…scientific laws…extra-chewy…whole-wheat dough surround…I might have to look at this package, 'cause…whole-wheat dough surrounding a chewy, figgy center. Figs taste good and they’re good use…good for you. Now, here’s something I haven't seen 'cause I have…I’ve been…they have cedar-wrapped sockeye salmon. They used to sell these cedar planks that you could wrap yourself, but now it looks like they already have it ready for you.
Yeah, the sheet is wrapped and hand-tied around a six-ounce bone fillet. Wild-caught sockeye salmon, so wild-caught salmon…these are really good to put on…oh, it’s got a little smoked seasalt chipotle powder, flaky, tender…sounds delicious. $4.99; you get two of those. That’s a meal for three people. Yeah, if you grill that on both sides for just a little bit, it almost gets kinda steamed, steam-grilled. Really good. Cold-brew coffee BBQ sauce; sounds good, but this is the kind of thing I couldn't risk eating at dinner because I say, does it have coffee in it? It has cold-brew coffee concentrate, yeah. I can't…I have…'cause I make a sleep podcast, I get…I have coffee paranoia, so I wouldn't…I’d say, well, maybe for early lunch. Four turkey burgers; $3.29. I’m not a big fan of turkey burgers. I’ve not had much success.
There was a time for a while…this was back a long time ago where I was making…where I went to ground turkey thinking…and even sometimes ground turkey and tofu as a alternative to other ground things, but I just found over time it just…it was too dry. So, I don't know if they’ve gotten better at that. I’d be willing to try it if it’s like, you have to combine all the meats of the turkey. You can't just have…I don't know, so it has some fat, 'cause I think that’s the main issue, is it was so dry 'cause it was so…yeah. So, I don't know. Organic free-range chicken drumsticks; I used to buy this and burn my daughter out on these maybe ten years ago. I would buy a pack of these and cook two for dinner for her, and now she won't eat…now she’ll never eat a drumstick again.
This next one is a Cuban-style seasoning blend, and I highly recommend this. I’m on my second bottle of this, or whatever, container. Strong, strong recommend. The full title is Trader Joe's Cuban-style citrously…citrousy garlic seasoning blend. Here’s where you use it; on fish, on Brussel…roasted Brussels sprouts. Like, if you just use it on roasted Brussels sprouts alone, you’re getting your money’s worth and beyond. But yeah, they recommend it on the chicken, on your turkey burger, probably on beans. I haven't even tried…I made some beans yesterday from scratch and I put chili powder and salt in there. But that might be good for when I have…why didn’t I pack any beans for my lunch today? That’s what I’m just thinking to myself. I really missed the boat on that. Okay, what else do we have?
Premium Angus flank steak…I do like to make a ropa vieja with flank steak in the oven, slow-cook it in the oven, and then cook it again. Then you kind of…what do you call that with a fork? You shred it up and then cook it again in a sauce. But yeah, I just haven't don’t that for a while 'cause I think flank steak is really best slow-cooked. They do…I do…people say, oh, you could have it…this longer, thinner cut is known for having more connective tissue than the others, so it’s perfect for a London broil. But it is…they say you could enjoy it…does it say fajitas? Quicker meals, stir-frys…? I don't know about…I don't…oh, maybe if you cut across the grain. I think I’ve tried that, though.
They have a chicken andouille sausage that’s…we don’t…I don't buy those anymore but my daughter does enjoy…we’d get a couple packs of chicken sausage from Trader Joe's. I think she liked the apple one, and those would be good. You could grill them or you could fry them, you could put them in pasta or you could eat them with beans. They’re already cooked, so they just gotta be kinda heated up and finished. So, really easy. Here’s another…here’s…mindful snacking; $4.99 a pound for California almonds. I do really like their fifty…or, less-salted roasted almonds. These are raw. I prefer…they’re 50% less salt. Those ones are really good at Trader Joe's. I do like their…some of their flavored almonds. They have a smokehouse-type one. What I’ll do is I’ll buy…here’s what I had created recently.
Now, this is all store-bought stuff, so nothing homemade other than mixing it myself; so, I get a thing of low-salt almonds, then a thing of smokehouse almonds, either Trader Joe's or whatever…the brands, mix those together and then take some of those…so, about…I usually have enough for a snack for a few days, and I’ll put it in a tupperware with some sesame seeds and then some chickpea snacks. Those chickpea snacks normally will have a flavor like a Thai chili or BBQ. Then you mix all those together in about equal measure of all four, and then…a nice little snack. Now, it is very dense, so…but a lot of good stuff in there. One handful makes a good snack. Now, this one’s interesting; organic freeze-dried berry medley. $3.99 for a 1.2-ounce package.
But this would be good to have for the winter because it’s got blueberry and strawberries and raspberries, and…two of my favorite berries. Or maybe not; I guess not. Blueberries and blackberries…strawberries and raspberries I enjoy. These might be good to put into something for breakfast. I remember for a while I would…a mixed-berry scone that Trader Joe's had that was good. Crispy, crunchy chips; this is written in orange font. Snack crisp…but it’s better to have crisp…texture…it better be crunchy if you call it crunchy. I don't know what it’s made out of. Oh, mild…sprinkle of sea salt, mild, beany flavor…oh, pea flour and chickpea flour. Now, here’s another thing that’s got my attention; plumcots. More like yum-cots. This is trademarked. If stone fruits are your thing, plumcots are now your chance.
Multiple varieties of these plum/apricot hybrids on the shelf. There’s a red-fleshed plumcot, a green-skinned, yellow…freshed one, or a purple-and-speckle-skinned one. So, I’ll have to check…I love stone fruits and I know people have allergies. My daughter has a allergy to stone fruits, but so do two famous podcast hosts from…I don't want to say who they are, but really famous…from really good podcasts. They have stone fruit allergies. Organic spicy honey sauce; I know that’s a hot thing, like hot honey, but not for me. So, I mean…I don't know. I’m not a fan of sweet and spicy. I’m a fan of spicy and savory, maybe like a cinnamon hot chocolate. So, maybe I could add it to my tea, but I don't think so. Extra-hot habenero ghost pepper salsa; not if it’s extra-hot, for me.
Sweet and spicy pickle chips and onions, bread-and-butter pickles, harvested traditionally during…from [inaudible] cucumbers in Illinois during the Great Depression. They had it and then they said, let’s put some onions in there. Sixteen-ounce fluid jar…spicy mango lemonade; it’s sweet, tart, and spicy. It’s $2.49 for a thirty-two-ounce bottle. I don't know, I think I tried that once, but probably not for me. Inevitable ubi mochi…and it has a ubi saying, I am inevitable. This is inevitable…the inspiration for this texture combo came from a crew member in one of our stores…crew. It’s ubi ice cream enveloped in mochi, purple-hued from fruit and vegetable juices. So, that sounds pretty good. I may have even had this. I like mochi and I like ubi, or ube.
Organic vanilla fudge chip ice cream; I’ll just…I’m not…I’ll take my vanilla ice cream and I’ll make my…I mean, I’m big on making my own…whatever those things are called at Dairy Queen, the…whatever they’re called, Blizzies or whatever. Spiced chai tea concentrate; I like making…I have chai tea bags, so I’ll go with that or that expresso…spiced expresso tea or bengal spice from celestial seasoning. Well, this is interesting; amped-up almonds. They’re perennial, dark covered chocolate almonds, but it also…yeah, they’re enrobed. Oh, they added pea protein. So, it says, sixteen grams of protein per a 2.5-ounce bag. That’s double the protein than the normal dark chocolate covered almonds, and they reduced the sugar to fourteen grams per bag.
Here’s something my…I don't know if my dog ever wanted a Reuben, but they have deli-style corned beef dog treats. Probably sounds like something that might give her a tummy ache, so I’ll stick to stuff that…at least the fake flavors are…I know already like peanut butter. Chocolate peanut butter Jojo's…I’ll wait for the…I guess it was one of the most popular flavors in their multi-flavored Jojo holiday collection. But I think…I like those pumpkin ones. That was one of the things…I was surprised. I said, I like these pumpkin Jojo's. Cocoa almond spread; I have some of that. Then, let’s just skip over the booze section. Cheezy, pleazy light shredded mozzarella; this is a light mozzarella. It’s a handy pouch of pre-shredded cheese. 60% less fat, 25% fewer calories, and it still has a firm and chewy texture.
I just wonder if this would melt the same way…I guess 'cause I only have pizza once a week and I make it at home…that I personally prefer a whole-milk mozzarella. Then, this is one they were talking about that does sound good; cheddar and gruyere melange cheese. It’s deeply-rooted in the land…Wisconsin…once covered with glaciers. Let’s see, it’s not quite as ancient as the glaciers, but we…found in our cheesecake for more than a decade. Crafted just for us by a Wisconsin master cheesemaker, aged for ninety days. $7.49 a pound. Mexican-style corn and quinoa salad; this is in the prepared salads. Yeah, $4.99…this might be good with some chicken or something else in there.
Roast corn, mayonnaise, Cotija cheese on soft, perfectly-cooked quinoa and brown rice, crispy cabbage and kale, some roasted poblano/cilantro dressing that subs for the mayo, a wedge of lime. That does sound delicious. They also…they say, maybe pair it with the vegan enchilada casserole which is on the next page, a vegan spin on the hearty, filling comforts. It’s a melty, saucy, multi-layered meal. Layer upon layer of soft corn tortillas, roast vegetables, yams, zucchinis, onions, poblano peppers, smothered in a toasted red chili sauce. Mix the mozzarella and cheddar-style vegan cheeses. Once cooked in the oven or the microwave, the savory casserole turns gooey. Sounds pretty good, and you can pair it with some salsa or…it’s only $5.99. Sounds like a dinner ready to go.
Spicy cashew butter dressing…huh, spicy cashew butter, lime juice, ginger, cilantro, and hot chili peppers into a versatile condiment. You could make it with turkey burgers, noodles, fish, poultry. A zaatar tango salad kit; that’s another salad kit…$3.99. That sounds pretty good. Sweet and sliced…diced dates; that’s another zingy zaatar. We get a lot of…they say, which…who has more alliteration, Great British Bake Off or Trader Joe's? I’d say, well, it doesn't really matter because…I mean, I guess because Trader Joe's, they have more time. I know there’s writers on Great British Bake Off and editing, and then they probably do some VO work with the second round of writing. But still, I’d have to give it to Great British Bake Off, though there’s some good ones in here; diced dates…yeah.
So, this sounds pretty good; dairy-free parmesan cheese alternative. My daughter likes this. It’s a spice…oh no, you could pair it with a spicy cashew butter dressing. Of course they always have their flower…I haven't bought any plants at Trader Joe's. I’ve been trying not to just 'cause I have so many plants, and most all my plants have outgrown their intial one or two pots. So, it’s like, I have so many pots and not just pots; not the ones they came in, like ones I bought. So, now I’m stuck with this position of like, what am I gonna do now that my plants are growing up? It’s a metaphor for my life. But I’m like, should I just buy baby plants knowing they’re gonna grow up and move out of their pots? Then where am I gonna put them? I guess you say, Scoots, think of somebody other than yourself.
You could give them away. I say, I could. I don't think I’m emotionally ready for that, so I’d rather just live in a home with empty pots out on the deck. Let’s see what else we have. Reusable produce bags; $1.99. Kibbeh, Middle Eastern-inspired stuffed meatballs; ground beef, onions, and seasoning, cumin, coriander, formed into balls, breaded…in a breading to be fried. But it’s not just made of grains. It’s a combination of cracked bulgar wheat that has been pounded together with ground beef, meatballs wrapped in more meat. Looking more like footballs than soccer balls…fried in sunflower oil. So, alls you do is heat them up and you can enjoy their crisp outsides and juicy insides or boil them for a more tender bite. An excellent appetizer.
You put it with different sauces, a herb tahani sauce, maybe spicy cashew butter dressing…now, here’s one of my MVPs of the entire Coronavirus, is mini sweet peppers. I definitely go through a bag of these a week because you can chop them up raw, put them in salad, and they’re good on salad. But what I like to do is put half a bag on the grill and I just grill them. I kinda blister them and then you could toss them in salt, pepper, and olive oil. Or if you’re trying to watch everything, you just eat them as is. They are delicious. Then you can put them on top of pizza. Those are the three things I use them for. Topping for salad, sliced up, topping for pizza, and then just grilled. Between the mini sweet peppers and…what is that called? Brussels sprouts. Those are my two Coronavirus MVP vegetables.
Let’s get to the finish line here on this one. We got the organic coleslaw kit. You can make your own coleslaw? Let’s see, we don’t usually…that’s why every year…for this time-saving coleslaw kit…that’s everything you need to make a fresh, classic summertime salad. Chopped red-and-green cabbage, shredded carrots, and a creamy dressing…toss together and you’re good to go. That sounds pretty good. Then a organic, free-trade wake-up blend of coffee; that’s $14.99 for a big can or $7.49 for a fourteen-ounce bag. I can't…I just stick with the French roast at Trader Joe's. I like it. It works for me — or the vanilla — on the weekend. Salsa autentica is…they’ve been selling it since 1983. They have a lot of other sauces. Simple, wholesome, medium-spice flavor…I don't know if I’ve tried this one.
I’ll have to look for it. I’ve never found — no offense to Trader Joe's — any Trader Joe's salsa that’s really blown me away, just ones that have been pretty good. Now, here’s something that does blow me away. If I did shave, this shaving cream is unbelievable. If it’s a clean, close shave you desire…I have this in my house. I probably shave once or twice a year. No, probably once or twice every two year…once every two years. But if it’s a clean, close shave you desire, Trader Joe's honey mango moisturizing cream…so, those of you that shave every day, go get this. It’s eight ounces for $3.99, but it feels so good, smells good…and then we’re gonna finish it off with one of my daughter’s favorites; watermelon lemonade sparkling water…eight-pack. I’ve actually kind of gone back and forth on this.
At first I didn’t like it, then I had one yesterday and I said, it’s pretty good. It’s sparkling water. I like the blueberry lemonade sparkling water. It’s not lemonade, though. Or, wait, maybe this one is blueberry lemonade. Is this the one that’s just sparkling water or does this have actual lemonade in it? I don't know. I guess $3.29…eight-pack, that’s what I bought. So, that’s just the sparkling water with lemon and watermelon flavoring. It’s good. I also like the blueberry one as well. So, goodnight. You’ll either hear patrons from Scoots again or…you already heard from me, so I’ll just say goodnight wherever you are and wherever you’re going. I’m happy to help. Thanks.
Friends beyond the binary, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, and my patron peeps, it’s time for a Fearless Flyer…or a combination of Fearless Flyer episodes here, 'cause I have in my hand…I have in my warm, little hand here the fall 2021 autumn…Awesomely Autumnal Pumpkin Palooza Fearless Flyer. I’ve already heard from…or listeners and patrons that another one’s out there. I don't know if they’re gonna do two more? I guess normally they do a newspaper-style one for the holidays, but…so, they may have a Thanksgiving and a holiday seasonal one, so we shall see. So, this one opens…it’s got…it’s a regular thing. It’s got a couple pumpkin people cheersing to fall, to pumpkin season, and to sharing your pumpkin oat beverage. Now, I have been drinking oat beverage.
I don't drink a lot of Trader Joe's oat beverage that I can think of, but that’s one of the ones…vegan, gluten-free, kosher, pumpkin oat beverage. I haven't had it, but it says pumpkin puree…oh wait, we add seasonal stuff; pumpkin puree, natural pumpkin spice flavor, cane sugar, and a little sea salt for balance. So, that does sound pretty good. They say you should try it on cereal, try it in coffee…it’s $2.49 for thirty-two ounces which is four cups, I believe. Now, I’ve heard from listeners that these pumpkin spice expresso beans are the cat’s…if a cat’s pajamas were edible…there’s a statement that’ll never make any sense.
You’d say, if something that could be a cat’s pajamas was edible…because if it was ever a cat’s pajamas…hello, even cat fans everywhere say, Scoots, the cats…'cause then it would have to be not edible by cats, and cats would ignore it. Also, pajamas cats would wear, as far as I know, is very rare. I think we’ve talked about this. Why would something be called cat’s pajamas? Because they’d have…well, 'cause they’d have to be so comfortable a cat would wear them. But definitely no edible cat’s pajamas. But these pumpkin spice espresso beans, I haven't tried them. I guess I gotta see if they still have them in stock, 'cause when I’m recording this it’s the November…first couple days. Oh, white chocolate, pumpkin powder, aromatic pumpkin pie spices, annatto, turmeric…sounds pretty good. $0.99.
Pumpkin bread and muffin mix, regular or gluten-free…I haven't had this, but they’re here for you heralding the arrival of pumpkin season…the foundation of our pumpkin party. I’m not a big muffin person because I only have one breakfast a week that’s no-holds-barred or whatever. All my other breakfasts are very conservative and based on building blocks of my day. Just like a sleep podcast, you say, my breakfast is boring so when I do have breakfast on Saturday, that’s when I say, well, let’s go wild. Then I say, I don't know if going wild is a muffin. Now, we will get to something, hopefully, that I say, that’s what I had for my going-wild breakfast, or a couple things. Okay, let’s go to the next page 'cause I just saw something I can highly recommend.
I haven't had it in a while, but it’s spatchcocked lemon rosemary chicken. This is a great way to cook a chicken where you’re not…pretty much you’re cooking a whole chicken, you’re roasting it, or you can grill it. But it’s a little bit easier to cook for those of us, I don't know, that tend to not do well on our roast chicken. $4.99 a pound…it covers…and if you like them a little bit more roasted on the outside, more surface area comes in contact with the heat source…heat sois…the old heat source. Heat sauce? No, heat source. That’s where the heat comes from here. What accent is that, Scoots? It’s a confused Ronkonkoman accent. Shorter cooking time, moisture bird, crispy skin, lemon rosemary…delicious. Brined with orange and lime, vinegar, garlic, rosemary, parsley, and lemon. That sounds delicious.
If I see one of those, I will pick it up. Pumpkin ravioli; here’s the thing, I’m gonna skip it. Honey-roasted pumpkin ravioli…I know there might be fans out there. I’m pretty much not gonna be one, probably. It just doesn't sound…brown sugar…honey, brown sugar…not in a savory dish, for me. This is another popular one. They also recommend matching it with the pumpkin ravioli; autumnal harvest creamy pasta sauce. I’m not a big fan of gourds. I mean, gourds, I love looking at them. Gourds; their seeds? Delightful. Gourds; that’s…when people play gourds musically, I enjoy listening to it. But eating gourds…gourds and root vegetables, too…I’m so close…I think I had one too many mud pies as a child, so I won't be eating any gourds.
Plus, probably…somebody called me Gordo and I said…but the autumnal harvest creamy pasta sauce 2015 debut…its rookie year, 2015. What do they got? People have it as a soup. It’s a tomato-based pasta sauce with seasonal extras, but ‘extras’ in quotes. Yeah, here we go; pumpkin, butternut squash…carrots I like. So, carrots are a root vegetable, but they’re…you know. I don't know, I’ve been over…they’re aromatic. Whether you go fancy with fusili or gaga over gigli, try it. Murasaki sweet potatoes; purple on the outside, cream-colored on the inside. I’ve never had this. They look like a russet. Do they taste like one? No, they’re sweet — oh, that’s why I haven't had them — with a hint of chestnut. They can be fluffy. Oh, a sweet potato; that’s why they’re called sweet potatoes. That’s a root vegetable.
I guess…yeah, is a potato a root vegetable? ‘Cause I don't mind potatoes, either. Is leek a root vegetable? I guess I take back some root vegetables. Butternut squash mac and cheese; I could skip…if I wasn’t doing a sleep podcast, I’d skip right over it. There’s two gourds talking to each other. A gourd walks into a bar and the bartender says…I don't know, that’s not the joke. I was trying to think…make up my own joke. I don't know what the…you said, are you here for the pumpkin-carving contest? I say, no, I’m looking for…what time’s…do you know what time the 51A comes by here? Okay, that’s a sleep podcast…butternut squash mac and cheese; no. Big ‘no’ for me. Cheddar, gouda, and parmesan, I like that.
Bechemel, butternut squash puree, nutmeg, and sage, those are just things…another thing I’m…I like sage as the fourth or fifth layer in a layer of flavors. It’s in the top-three…I save it for when I’m trying to smudge my house, you know? Pumpkin alfredo sauce…I’d say, tell it to Fredo, because…go put it with Fredo because…festive flavoring, a cozy, comforting reminder…changing the seasons…scrumptious sign post…such good alliteration. It’s Grana Padano, pecorino, Romano cheeses, a mix of savory spices, garlic, onion, sage, and black pepper, which is not my thing. Plus, I hang out with a lot of people that are intolerant to dairy, so there’s…okay, fully-cooked Italian-style meatballs; now, I haven't bought these in a while, but this is a strong recommend. Also, the meatless meatballs is a strong recommend.
You can have these on-hand, right, and you can use them to make…for pasta. Meatball subs you can make with these. They’re not fancy, they’re not super-innovative, and there’s nothing exciting about them. They taste delicious. You can fry them, too, like crisp the outside of them. That’s another good way to put them. They’re already flame-broiled. Just heat them in the oven or simmer them in a pot. $4.49…I mean, that is a easy dinner. You could use one of these…probably not an alfredo sauce with a meatball, huh? What I would recommend is a fifty-fifty meatball, half-meat…meatless and half-meatball pasta dish, or a fifty-fifty sub. But yeah, you could use…you could get two meals, probably, out of that, especially if you buy one bag of each, but that’s not seasonal. I’m surprised it made the cut in there.
Here’s autumnal harvest soup or pumpkin bisque. Didn’t we already cover that? No, I guess we were doing pasta sauces. What do we got here? Let me guess, there’s sage and…butternut squash, pumpkin, and tomatoes. Chunky harvest…this one does look good, or one of them. I’ve seen it in one of the aisles in a jar, but I…oh, pumpkin puree, heavy cream, fall spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, and a touch of honey for sweetness. Tahini is the secret ingredient. Now, that intrigues me 'cause I like tahini, but just not with those sweeter…I’m a bitter man, you know? I like my…what can I say? I don't cross…I can eat foods touching one another. I’m not one of those people. Put it on a plate…I’ll mix it all together if it’s supposed to be mixed together.
I prefer to have my salad separate, but if my salad gets some tomato and pasta on it, I’ll eat it. But there’s something about this that just…the idea of cinnamon…I mean, cinnamon in some…cinnamon as a third or fourth layer in a mole or some sort of really all-day cooked pork or something, I can get with that. But you gotta have the cinnamon down there below the bay leaf and the clove. Just my opinion. There’s a person in a bucket who says, is this…? They’re dressed kinda like a jester. They say, is this TJ’s pumpkin bisque gonna be delicious? Yep. It’s melting the soles of my shoes. They don’t call me Fearless for nothing. So, this must be Fearless. So, Fearless is a steampunkian jester. Kinda looks like someone who got cut out of…or maybe…I don't know. I’d say, is this somebody from a Tim Burton movie?
He’s got checkered pants on, boots, a striped shirt or a striped vest, then a floral jacket, a top hat, and then steampunk goggles. Pumpkin samosas; mini, spicy, delicious. Not my thing, either, or pumpkin empanadas. You’d say, this is my idea of something I wouldn't be into either way. Scoots, would you prefer pumpkin samosas or empanadas? So, let’s see, what are the flavors in these? Mini spicy pumpkin samosas; a flaky pastry exterior…okay, wait a second, garam masala, cumin, coriander, chili powder, fennel seeds…so, I don't see where there’s a pumpkin. So, this one could be…it doesn't have any sweets. So, this has the most potential. I will say that, yeah, some of the more…an Indian-type of spice, like a curry in pumpkin, I can see those flavors working together.
Maybe you’re saying, Scoots, I can see right through your hypocrisy. I say, what can I say? I’m a human being. So, this…pumpkin samosas…I don't eat a lot of samosas, but it does sound…this one so far I’m not rejecting. How’s that? Pumpkin empanadas…now, if I had to choose between a samosa and a empanada, nine times out of ten, unless there was a bad review or something, I’d go with the empanada. Flaky pastry exterior…I don't know. I just had a lot of positive empanada experiences in New York City, mostly. Maybe in Las Vegas I had some good empanadas, different parts of Florida…let’s see, this one…so, we could have another one. Oh, slightly sweet pumpkin filling. Sorry. Clove, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, creamy coconut milk, but it doesn't taste like coconut.
Less pumpkin pie spice and instead of sweet pumpkin flavor…here’s a thing; why don’t you go all the way? I’ll have…here’s what I’ll take, a pumpkin dessert empanada, pumpkin pie empanada. That’s what I would eat. Now, this one, this is something…sounds delicious. I haven't had it yet. It is on my purchase list, sweet, cinnamon-filled Korean pancakes. Now you’re on the right page with Scoots. If I’m gonna have something for breakfast…so, let’s see, strolling through Seoul on a chilly morning, you can encounter the scent of fresh hotteok, served straight from the grills and the deep-fryers. These flaky, flavorful pancakes come in all kinds of varieties. It’s originally classically sweet and aromatic.
This is a cinnamon-filled version that remains the most popular, four pancakes that can be quickly prepared, and they got a toasty-brown exterior. This one might be good in the…this one might be good to waffle, and that seems like something they’ll have in stock even when it’s not…okay, pumpkin cranberry crisps; this, again…apricot, cherry, cranberry, goat cheese. I taste the goat in goat cheese, so I can't have that. Seasonal snacking…eight years and counting…oh, so crispy loaf-shaped dough…3.5 ounces. Pumpkin cranberry crisps; I could eat those if I was at somebody’s house, but I think this would be something I would buy and probably not eat. Spiced, uncured charcuterie, right? That’s how you say that? Charcuterie. Wow, it does…charcuterie. Char-cut-erie.
Okay, if you’re looking for autumn…this is a uncured charcuterie collection. Three traditional Italian meats, all with a spicy profile; spicy coppa, that’s pork shoulder, fermented and dried, for ninety…sugar, red pepper, black pepper, white pepper, nutmeg, and cloves in a sorpresa. That’s the same sixty days…sugar, red pepper, cayan, white pepper, garlic, and paprika. Then a capocollo; that’s fifteen days…cayan, black pepper, paprika, nutmeg, and cloves. Yeah, I don't know if those are coming in a sausage shape or they’re already sliced, 'cause I made this one dinner last week from the New York times; it was pepperoni pasta. So, I made…I tweaked the recipe slightly so I had some pepperoni and some salami, a good-quality salami. Or, no, a chorizo, a dried chorizo, though.
Then, I didn’t have tomato paste so I reduced fire-roasted tomatoes. But other than that, I followed the recipe. It’s got lemon. It’s got garlic. Very good and popular with the people I served it to. It has some parmesan ready to go, and you can use whole-grain…nice whole-grain pasta. I had the brown rice and quinoa. I don't know if it was the fusili. It may have been. Cheddar cheese and scotch bonnet with…this is kind of a cheddar cheese with scotch bonnet and chili and red pepper. Is this gonna be more spicy or more of a sweet…? The tam o’ shanter scotch bonnet…delicate sweetness but remarkable level of heat, hotter than jalapenos. That’s a little too hot for me, I think. Time-tested cheesemaking…it’s a savory cheddar. Oh, it comes with a red pepper relish. A delight for heat-seekers.
I mean, I do like a spicy cheese, but again, rare…I’m probably eating a spicy cheese six times a year. Believe me, I would eat it all the time if I could, but it’s just reality. Okay, apricot, cranberry goats’ milk cheese log; that’s not something I can eat 'cause I can taste the goat. Let’s see, they got apricot, cherry, some other thing which I’m assuming is cranberry, and a goat. Yeah, dried apricots, sweetened, dried tart cherries, sweetened, dried cranberries chopped and rolled into plumps of…plump logs of goat cheese. Yeah, no thank you. It might be good with…it might be good. Not for me, though. I’m trying. Fall leaf color tortilla chips; that sounds nice to look at, and tortilla chips are always good. Leaf-shave…leaf-shaped chips, stone-ground corn, sunflower oil, sea salt.
Nature’s responsible for these stunning colors, so no artificial dyes. They get their sunset…warm sunset hues…beet, carrot, and pumpkin powder. Pumpkin-spice hummus; now, that could be something good for somebody. Vine-dried garbanzo beans…man, whoever writes this really…vine-dried garbanzo beans; that’s a piece of great writing there. In this case the sesame flavor of tahini is swapped out for the pumpkin puree. Probably not. I do like Trade…I think I like Trader Joe's hummus. One of my favorite snacks — I talked about it before — is a regular potato chip and hummus. Really, really…so underrated nobody even talks about it. La petit carrots of many colors; these are four…these would probably be good for a salad. Rich purples, bold reds and bright yellows, and ghostly whites.
It wasn’t ‘til the 1600s that Dutch farmers crossbred yellow and red carrots to create the orange one in honor of the Netherlands’ national color. Yeah, everything they say…they say that stuff’s got that stuff in there that’s good for you, so eat your rainbows, you know? They’re trimmed of their greens, ready to go directly from the bag into…oh, roasting them, I didn’t even think about that. Great idea. $3.99…I’ll definitely be doing that. I’m gonna have to hit up the Trader Joe's. Raclette, R-A-C-L-E-T-T-E. This is some kind of cheese. Raclette…melted cheese stands out as one of life’s treasures. Oh, this is like one of those Swiss cheeses. Normally grated for the purpose of melting and scraping onto steamed potatoes, bread, and briny cornichons. Named raclette from the French racler, to scrape.
Silky smooth, oh, so meltable cheese, sliced and ready to melt. Wow, that sounds delicious, too. Next Alpine tradition…you can melt it on anything…man. $5.99. Sign me up. Now we got some seasonal snacking suggestions. Dry-roasted maple almonds…California almonds, a triple-whammy of maple seasoning, maple sugar, and natural maple. These might be good with some caramel corn, maybe. Once they’re coated with maple, we dry-roast them. Crunchy, sweet, mapley almonds…oh yeah, they even say mix it with the maple and sea salt kettle corn. So, I found a place where I have my coworking space, right, that I work at a few days a week with…'cause…with commuting to school, my daughter to school…and there’s a popcorn shop. It’s not in a mall. It’s out on the street and it doesn't open ‘til noon.
But I was like, this is a popcorn shop? So, I’m only buying popcorn from there except for the popcorn I make at home. So, I did buy popcorn once 'cause I don’t really eat a lot of popcorn. But they have…it’s definitely on my list. So, Trader Joe's has a maple-and-sea-salt kettle corn, but I’d rather support this business. It seems like a small business. It could be run by Popcorn International, but I don't know. I see the same people working there, so…and I went and bought…I mean, it wasn’t…I said, I’m sorry, how much was that? But it was delicious. So, I got caramel corn the first time, so the next time I’ll get…they have a kettle corn. This is something I hear hype on. I haven't tried it…is pumpkin spice teeny, tiny pretzels.
Pretzel slims; cute country mini-twists, a sweet yogurt coating, pumpkin spice, crushed pumpkin spice, pumpkin seeds…yeah. Yeah, it’s good. Believe me, I understand that there’s pumpkin fans. I’m more of a peppermint fan, so I’m getting my season soon. So, everybody has their things. Pumpkin spice batons…oh, and there’s someone that said…I said ‘kettle drum’, not ‘kettle corn’. She’s conducting. She’s conducting…there’s a person playing with a kettle drum full of kettle corn and she’s speaking to him. She’s…what do you call that, a director? What do you call that? The maestro. Conductor. Thanks, brain. Pumpkin spice batons…they have those cocoa batons, coffee cocoa batons, vanilla batons, lemon batons. Again, these are the things I would love to buy, but then I would…I just can't.
Or, what I’d do is I’d buy it and put it my cupboard for two or three years. But that does sound good. Wait…oh no, I tried those. Okay, we’ll get to those in a minute. Okay, next up is mini maple walnut biscotti. Tenderly…caramely sweet. A classic maple bar is hard to beat, but a soft, doughy texture makes it admittedly hard to keep handy when a surprise craving hits. This is a maple bar of sorts. Does it have anise in there? How is it a biscotti if it doesn't have anise? Tender, chopped walnuts…this doesn't actually sound bad. I’m not a big biscotti person, but…usually I’m not negatory about everything, but just…this pumpkin spice season…now this one, again…I was really looking forward to this. I do have one that I bought before this which was a strawberry shortcake sandwich cookie.
This one is cinnamon bun cookies. They were just okay. It sounded so delicious and I even talked about it at checkout with the checkout person. The cinnamon bun cookies are deceptively simple in construction. It’s two super-soft cinnamon brown sugar cookies in a sticky dollop of cinnamon-spiced cream filling. But you’ll be impressed at the…how they taste and melt in your mouth. They were pretty good but not as good as…I guess you just might as well have a cinnamon bun. Okay, maple pecan cluster cereal; this one is good, I think. This is the one that…yeah, this is really good. Are you a flakes person or a cluster person? Trader Joe's maple pecan cluster cereal, crispy cornflakes…I love this, their cluster-type cereals. $4.49, a twenty-ounce box. Have it with pumpkin oats. You can be on Team Flakes or Team Clusters.
Pumpkin spice coffee; that’s just plain…that’s a pass for me. Maybe you have something evocative…maybe…I don't know, I’d like to try it. I had a pumpkin-something cold brew and it was pretty good. $7.99…okay, pumpkin non-fat Greek yogurt or organic pumpkin creamy cashew; I have that one in my fridge. I haven't had it yet. $0.99…I think I have the…I don't know if I have the cashew alternative or the Greek yogurt, but I do have that. So, that’s on my list to try. Okay, pumpkin spread, pumpkin spice, pumpkin…Portuguese produce some pumpkin preserves that are very simple, pumpkiny, and delicious. Made in small batches. Sweet and savory spread…I won't get that, but then they have right next to it the cinnamon bun spread. Keep this in your refrigerator. It’s great.
What’s your favorite part of a cinnamon bun? Soft, doughy bread, the sweetness…this thing is great for spreading on stuff. Holy cow. Tapioca syrup, honey, cinnamon, brown sugar, buttercream…it’s good on anything that you’re having…that you want to taste like cinnamon bun. Honeycrisp apples; I haven't had…maybe I did buy some. I don't think I’ve bought apples at Trader Joe's, to be honest. Scientifically speaking, they say, the honeycrisp super crunch is due to its cell structures being larger than other apples. That’s why it’s one of America’s favorite. Pumpkin cheesecake; I haven't had that, either. That would be something that maybe…maybe try it with some spooky bats and cats sour gummy candies. It’s six…that’d be great for a party.
Cinnamon Brooklyn babka; that’s…I mean, this is something that is good for anything. I may be making some breakfasts out of that. It’s like a coffee cake, cinnamon roll, and a brioche bun all rolled up. Much like the chocolate babka, it’s rich, soft…oh, it’s filled with sesame, cinnamon, and sugar. So, yeah, this is the kind of thing that makes a dreamy French…what do you call it? French toast, or just fine on its own with butter. Maple bacon flavor stuffie dog treats; huh, I’ll have to look at this. Soft…outside’s a shell with dehydrated ground pumpkin. TJ's fig cookie…oh, they’re like Fig Newtons but for dogs. Koa likes…she does…we do get her Trader Joe's treats, but she likes the hard, biscuity ones. Apple juice…now, I don't see the…oh, I bought this, I haven't used it; organic vanilla bean paste. It’s $4.99.
I’m just trying to think about working with it. Maybe I did use it in something. It’s Madagascar vanilla beans, but unlike vanilla extract, it’s a thicker, more viscous creation. What I plan on using…is when people…when actually dishes call for vanilla bean versus vanilla extract. If you’re looking for big vanilla flavor…so, yeah, and this one’s organic. Last year they did a non-organic version. They got a ton of fall flowers, apple cider-scent foaming hand soap, and we’re onto the last page here. What do we got? Pumpkin-spiced cream liqueur; I can't have that. You know what I can recommend…maybe I recommended it in the next one; apple cider, and I got some. Do yourself a favor; if they have that…it’s apple cider fruit spread. Holy cow, you put that with a good…that makes a good PB and J.
Green apple sparkling mineral water; I’m a big fan of the ones they don’t have anymore. They had a tropical one. But hopefully they have the winter ones that I like. What is that called? It’s named after a sweet wine drink you have, but it’s just sparkling water. That’s my favorite. Then I would mix the pineapple and the tropical coconut one they used to have, but they don’t make those anymore. What is that one called? Sangria. They have a sangria-flavored water. It doesn't really taste like sangria. It just has a grapey…but this one’s green apple. I never got into green-apple-flavored water, but Trader Joe's, they do have…their bottles of water are quality.
They’re made from…they’re from protected, underground sources. Then sour bats and cats gummies; that’s like the Sour Patch Kids. $2.99. Always delicious. Bring it to a movie. I mean, that’s what you’re gonna want to have at a movie, anyway. So, yeah, that’s this fall’s Fearles Flyer. Maybe since this one was a little bit better of a start…maybe I’ll be setting up Scoots for the one from August next, or maybe Scoots already talked about that. Just in case, goodnight everybody, and thanks for the support.
